
Generals Hang On For Win, Breaking Three-Game Skid

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (JULY 27, 2011) - The Generals blew a 4-0 lead, but rallied late to defeat the Chattanooga Lookouts Wednesday afternoon at AT&T Field, 7-5. The win evened the series at 1-1. Scott Savastano had two hits and a game winning sacrifice fly in the eighth inning that put Jackson on top 6-5. The win ended the three-game losing streak. The win places Jackson back at .500 overall, 51-51 on the season.
Rich Poythress was 3-for-4 again on Wednesday, and is now 6-for-8 in the first two games of the series. Poythress doubled for the 23rd time and drove in his team leading 51st run of the season. Vinnie Catricala produced his second straight multi-hit game and 13th in 24 Jackson games, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI's. Savastano, Carlos Triunfel and James McOwen each recorded two hits in the contest.
Moises Hernandez (3-0) received the pitching win for Jackson, tossing a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. Steve Delabar notched his 11th save and threw 35 pitches in a scoreless eighth and ninth innings. Chattanooga reliever Steven Ames suffered the loss, giving up two runs in 1.1 innings.
The Generals sent two runs across in the top of the first inning and scored first for the second straight day. Vinnie Catricala single home Scott Savastano and then Rich Poythress doubled home Catricala to put Jackson on top 2-0.
Carlos Triunfel opened the top of the fourth inning with a solo homer to left-center. It was his sixth home run of the season and first since May 27th. The Generals made it 4-0 later in the inning on an RBI single by Vinnie Catricala.
Jackson led 5-2 going to the bottom of the sixth inning and that is when the Lookouts score three runs including a two out, two-run double by Gorman Erickson that tied the game at 5-5.
Scott Savastano came through for the Generals in the top of the eighth inning, connecting on a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Triunfel. Then in the ninth, Johermyn Chavez added some insurance by bringing in Catricala with a single to right. Jackson hung on to win 7-5.
The Generals continue their five-game series on Thursday night against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Game time is set for 6:15 pm CDT. RHP Tom Wilhelmsen (4-4, 5.06) makes the start for Generals against RHP Will Savage (10-3, 3.75) for Chattanooga. The game can be heard on Jackson's NewsTalk 101.5 FM and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com
