Mobile BayBears News Release
PEARL, Miss. - A 1-1 tie was chopped up in the top of the ninth inning by Marc Krauss as he blasted a triple off the wall in right-center, bringing home Taylor Harbin to carry the BayBears in a 2-1 triumph over the Mississippi Braves on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park.
Harbin reached with one out as he blooped a double down the right field line against reliever Ben Swaggerty (1-4). Swaggerty was in his third inning of relief when he hung a breaking ball to Krauss that drove home what was ultimately the winning run.
Bryan Henry started for the BayBears (62-40, 24-8) and shut down the M-Braves (40-62, 15-17) over the first five innings as he limited Mississippi to just two first-inning singles. Henry wiggled out of a two-out jam with runners on second and third before proceeding to not allow another knock.
Paul Clemens was also stifling for the Braves as he tossed 6.2 innings while surrendering two hits. One of those came from Ed Easley in the second as he sliced a two-base hit to right, inviting Harbin home for the first run of the contest.
Mississippi evened the score at 1-1 in the sixth against Billy Spottiswood. Mycal Jones doubled with one out and scored on a two-out single to center from Ernesto Mejia. Spottiswood put up a zero in the seventh as did Bryan Woodall (4-3) in the eighth. Mike DeMark (S, 5) sealed the victory with a perfect bottom of the ninth including two strikeouts and a Cory Harrilchak flyout to deep center.
The BayBears battle the Braves in the third of their five-game set on Thursday night at 7:05 from Trustmark Park. Right-hander Wes Roemer (6-6) gets the start for the BayBears against southpaw Luis Avilan (2-5). The BayBears are back home on Sunday night to host the Chattanooga Lookouts at 6:05 from Hank Aaron Stadium.
