Barons Manufacture Runs to Even Series

BIRMINGHAM - The Birmingham Barons (54-48) struck first in the second game of the series with the Huntsville Stars (51-51) to win 3-1.

The Barons used a double-steal to set up a pair of RBI-singles in the first inning to get things started. Birmingham added one more in the sixth on another single.

Kyle Heckathorn (0-1) suffered his first loss at the Double-A level in 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks. R.J. Seidel finished the game, striking out five batters and not allowing a hit.

Barons' starter Hector Santiago gave up the only Stars run in the fourth on a ground out by Steffan Wilson to score Brock Kjeldgaard. Kjeldgaard finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk and the run. Santiago threw 3.2 innings and gave up three hits and four walks.

The win went to reliever Brandon Kloess (3-0) who let up one hit over 3.1 shutout innings. Nathan Jones got his eighth save of the season after two scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Stars will look to regain the series lead on Thursday when RHP Michael Bowman (2-8, 5.34 ERA) will take the mound against LHP Charlie Leesman (7-4, 3.91 ERA).
