Gators Routed, 6-0
January 2, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release
The Gators first tilt of 2004 did not have the outcome they hoped for tonight in Georgia. The Gators were shut out 6-0 by the Columbus Cottonmouths. This was the first shutout of the Dave Farrish era for the team from the Frozen Swamp.
The Gators kept the Columbus Cottonmouths scoreless in the first period of play in Georgia tonight. Unfortunately, the Cottonmouths returned the favor.
The IceGators were not able to convert any of their power play chances, even with a two-man advantage. They were able to keep the Cottonmouths to just two power plays in the first.
Frederic Cloutier stopped all 13 shots he faced in the first period. The Gators had eight shots on goaltender Kristian Antila, who had not taken to the net since November.
The game took a turn in the second period when the Cottonmouths were able to score two soft goals on Frederic Cloutier. The third 'Mouth goal of the period was scored when the Marc-Andre Thinel won a face-off and was able to pass directly to Matt Shasby, who wristed the puck past Cloutier.
The Cottonmouths once again outshot the Gators with 13 shots to the Gators' 11. The second period ended with the Cottonmouths up by three goals.
The third frame saw three more goals from the Cottonmouths, as well as a slew of penalties from both teams. Cloutier faced 42 shots, and was pulled for the extra skater in the final minute of play. The Cottonmouths' Antila earned his first ECHL win stopping 27 Gators shots.
