Gardiner rejoining Generals
January 2, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
GREENSBOROâTonight one of the Greensboro Generals fan favorites will be making his debut this season in a Generals uniform. Right-winger Pete Gardiner has been assigned to the Generals after spending the first three months with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Gardiner (6-5, 235 lb.), hails from Toronto, Ontario, and is appearing for the fifth time of his career in the ECHL. His best statistical season came in 2002-03 with the Generals when he registered 25 goals and 30 assists, totaling 55 points. Prior to playing under Rick Adduono, Pete also appeared with the Roanoke Express (2000-01; 01-02) and with Jackson (2000-01).
While with Rochester this season, Gardiner appeared in 18 games, where he scored three goals and two assists. He leaves behind a Rochester (16-10-4-3) team that currently is in second place in the Western Conference's North Division. The Americans trail Hamilton by eight points in the race for the division.
"Returning a player with the caliber of Pete Gardiner is something that is going to be a big help to our lineup. Last season he scored 25 goals, and he is a big presence for us in the net on defense, as well as the power play. Defensively he will make a tremendous impact for us, by being able to utilize his size," Head Coach/General Manager Rick Adduono said of his newest addition.
The Generals complete a three-game stand this weekend on the road when they travel to Greenville and Roanoke. On Saturday, Greensboro takes on the Grrrowl with a 7:30 start time, followed by a 4:00 p.m. start in Roanoke on the following afternoon. Greensboro will return home on Tuesday, when they face off against the Augusta Lynx at 7:00 p.m. The game against the Lynx will kick off the Generals second five-game homestand of the season, when they face Charlotte and Atlantic City to close out the week.
