
Gators Downed by Pliots 5-4

Louisiana.LA The Louisiana IceGators could not hold on to a 3-0 lead as Cam Keith scored with just over 3 minutes remaining to give the Ice Pilots a 5-4 victory in the Cajundome, Wednesday night. Pensacola has now won 6 in a row as the Gators fall for the 6th straight game.
The Gators jumped out to a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes via the special teams. With Chris Thompson in the box, the Gators exploded for two short handed goals. At 16:21, David Bararuk stole the puck and fed Mark Rooneem on the right wing, Rooneem fired home the wrister from the circle off the glove of Frederic Cloutier for his 11th of the year and 1-0 lead. Just 1:05 later, Patrik Nilson brought the puck over the blue line and dropped it back to Wes Mason. The Gators leading scorer fired a slap shot from 45 feet into the net for a 2-0 lead. It was the 6th shorthanded goal for Louisiana and 3rd against the Ice Pilots.
The 2nd period started where the first period left off for the Gators. At 2:49, Chris Thompson followed his own deflection and scored on the rebound for his 10th of the year, a power play goal. However, Pensacola would fire 20 shots toward Nathan Marsters in the next 16 minutes at tie the score at 3. Alex Materukhin (9),Aaron Phillips (10), and Chris St Jacques (10) all scored for the Ice Pilots. The Gators were outshot 20-8 in the period.
The 3rd period would be roller coaster affair with Pensacola getting the last thrill. At 10:14, with Pensacola on a 4 on 3 power play, rookie Scott May (5) received a perfect pass from Jordan Krestanovich and put the puck into the net for a 4-3 Pensacola lead. The puck bounced the Gators way at 15:05 when David Bararuk's centering pass bounced off Tyler Beechey and past Frederic Cloutier for a 4-4 tie. With Dallas Stars Assistant GM, Francois Giguere watching, Bararuk finished with a 3 point night (1-2-3) including his 14th of the season. The Pilots got the game winner at 16:56, when Cam Keith picked up a rebound and fired a top shelf wrist shot just under the cross bar for his 10th of the year and a 5-4 victory. With their 6th loss in a row, Louisiana's record is now 16-23-3, 35 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Pensacola 37-28. Power plays were 1-3 for the Gators and 1-5 for the Pilots. The Gators next game is Friday night when Louisiana travels west to meet the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05pm.
