Gateway Slows Rippers

London Rippers News Release

LONDON, ONTARIO - Single runs in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings were enough for the Gateway Grizzlies to even their series with London, knocking off the Rippers 4-3.

Eric Katzman (0-2) took the loss for London, giving up allowing six hits, three walks and three runs, while striking out three in 4.2 innings.

New Ripper, Denver Wynn replaced Katzman in the 5th and threw one-third of an inning allowing a run on two hits and a walk.

Wynn got in trouble in the 6th, loading the bases with no one out and was pulled for Adam Arnold, who allowed just one run on a sacrifice fly.

The Rippers never led in the game, but they made it close.

Down 4-1, newcomer, Tony Delmonico blasted a solo home run over the trees in left, on the first pitch of the bottom of the 6th, tightening the score.

A walk, hit batter and single followed the homer, ending the night for Grizzlies starter, Alex Kaminsky (2-0).

But, Phillip Reamy came in and got Stephen Cardullo to bounce into a double play and Zach Larson flew out to right, pitching out of the 6th without allowing a run.

A sac fly by Cardullo in the 8th made it 4-3, but that was all London could muster.

London and Gateway will play the rubber match of their series tomorrow at Labatt Park.

A reminder the start time has been changed to 1:00pm, so fans will be able to watch the London Knights try for their second Memorial Cup Championship.
