Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Normal, IL - The Miners offense continued to shine as they defeated the CornBelters 9-0. As well as the Miners played offensively, Miners starter Shawn Gilblair pitched well in six innings of work. He only allowed two hits and struck out five batters. The only hits he gave up were a single to short stop Robert Brooks and a double to first baseman Jovan Rosa. Gilblair retired 15 in a row after Rosa's double.

The Miners offense started with Chad Maddox in the top of the first as he hit a two run homerun off CornBelters starter Elio Briones. The Miners came right back in the top of the third as Maddox hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 in favor of the Miners. In the top of the fifth inning, after Jake Kaase hit a one out double, Chad Maddox hit a RBI single. Then Matt Fields hit a two run home run to make 6-0 Miners.

After Briones was taken out of the game, the Miners got to reliever Jacob Liedka. In the top of the eighth, Jason Ganek hit a one out double. Sean Wilson brought him over to third with a base hit. Darian Sandford then came through with an RBI double. Chad Maddox finished the offensive output with a sacrifice fly to make it 9-0 Miners.

Gabriel Shaw, Albert Ayala and Max Peterson all threw an inning in relief.

The Miners look to sweep the series as they will send RHP Thomas Campbell to the mound. He'll be opposed by RHP Daniel Britt who is 0-1, with a 7.50 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 at the Corn Crip. Tune in to Mike Ventola at 4:40 on the Miners Radio Network for all the action.
