READING, Pa - Willy Garcia homered to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, but the Altoona Curve fell to the Reading Fightin Phils, 5-3, on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Garcia's streak is the longest for any Curve hitter in 2015 and the longest active streak in the Eastern League.

After falling behind in the third inning, Altoona (35-22) closed within a run two separate times in the game but were ultimately held off by Reading (32-26).

Reading jumped on Altoona starter Jason Creasy (Loss, 7-1) with three runs in the third inning. Roman Quinn hit a solo home run and Aaron Altherr followed with an RBI double later in the frame. Brock Stassi grounded out to score Altherr and give the FIghtin Phils a 3-0 lead.

Altoona responded in the top of the fourth inning with the solo home run by Garcia. Gift Ngoepe hit an RBI double to pull the Curve within a run.

Reading pushed the lead to 4-2 with a solo home run by Logan Moore in the fourth.

Reading starter Jesse Biddle (Win, 5-1) lasted six innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Creasy pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. The loss, his first this season, ended a streak of four consecutive starts won.

Josh Bell hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to close the Curve within 4-3, but Reading's Aaron Altherr answered with a home run of his own for his fourth hit of the night in the bottom of the inning.

The Curve brought the potential tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Stephen Shackleford (Save, 13) closed out the Reading win.

Ngoepe and Sebastian Valle each went 2-for-4 with a double for the Curve.

Altoona and Reading will play the rubber match of the three-game set on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Lefty Zack Dodson (3-2, 2.52) will start for the Curve, with right-hander Zack Eflin (4-4, 3.38) on the hill for the Fightin Phils. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
