Altherr leads way with four hits over Curve

Aaron Altherr's four hit night propelled the Fightin Phils (32-26) to a 5-3 win over the Altoona Curve (35-22) on Wednesday night. Jesse Biddle (5-1) earned his first win at home since May 4th of last season against Harrisburg.

Roman Quinn hit his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning off Curve starter Jason Creasy to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead. JP Crawford tripled in the following at-bat then scored on a RBI double from Aaron Altherr to give Reading a 2-0 lead. A wild pitch by Creasy moved Altherr over to third base who then scored on a RBI groundout by Brock Stassi to give the Fightins a 3-0 lead.

Altoona scored two runs off Jesse Biddle in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Fightins lead to 3-2. Willy Garcia hit a home run with one out then Gift Ngoepe hit a RBI double with two outs. Stetson Allie was thrown out on the play by Roman Quinn and JP Crawford as he was the potential tying run.

Logan Moore hit his first home run of the season with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning off Creasy to give Reading a 4-2 lead. Jesse Biddle was finished after six innings as he allowed two runs off seven hits with four strikeouts. Curve starter Jason Creasy was done after six innings as he allowed four runs.

The Curve got within one run of the Fightin Phils in the top of the eighth inning as Josh Bell hit a solo home run with two outs off reliever Reinier Roibal. Reading took a 5-3 lead off reliever Yhonathan Barrios in the bottom of the eighth inning as Aaron Altherr hit a solo home run, his sixth of the season. Altherr finished the night at 4 for 4 with two runs and two RBI.

Stephen Shackleford tossed a scoreless top of the ninth inning for his thirteenth save of the season.
