GAME NOTES
Three Keys To The Game Presented By Nebraska Department Of Transportation
Key 1: Push For The Playoffs
- It's only January, but the playoff mindset has begun for the Stars as they are now only two points out of a playoff spot after being as many as eight points out on The Stars have started on a hot streak coming out of the holiday break by winning their last three games. Blake Montgomery recorded his third multi goal game to help the Stars to a 4-3 victory against Omaha on December 30th. Lincoln is 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 games and currently two points behind Des Moines for the sixth seed.
Key 2: Limit Waterloo's Special Teams
- The Black Hawks' power play and penalty kill both enter the weekend ranked fifth-best in the USHL. The Stars power play has had its ups and downs against the Black Hawks this season, going 2-for-3 on Oct. 20 but then 0-for-9 on Oct. 27. Lincoln's penalty kill also suffered a drastic turnaround, going 4-for-4 in the first matchup of the season series before going 0-for-4 a week later.
Key 3: Win The Battle Between The Pipes
- These teams boast two of the top goaltenders in the USHL in Calvin Vachon of the Black Hawks and Yan Shostak of the Stars. Vachon is tied for second in the USHL in shutouts (2), tied for second in wins (2), fourth in goals-against average (2.75), fourth in save percentage (.906) and fifth in minutes (1,070).
