Omaha Lancers News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH. - The Omaha Lancers returned to northeast Ohio for the first time in over 2,000 days for a pair of matchups with the Youngstown Phantoms at the Covelli Centre.

The Lancers are entering tonight after taking down the Sioux City Musketeers in overtime by a score of 4-3 in front of a sold-out Tyson Events Center. The Phantoms are coming in on a two-game skid with and 8-5 loss and a 5-4 overtime loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks on the road last weekend.

The Lancers struck first in the opening half of the first period, with a goal from Noah Jones for his second of the season. Nick Pierre and Ryan Kusler got the puck towards the net, but Jones was on the doorstep to bury the rebound. Handing Omaha the 1-0 lead.

Youngstown got the goal back just over two minutes later as Miles Gunty slammed home his ninth goal of the year on even strength.

Both teams had their chances on the man-advantage. But the penalty kill units were able to close out any high-quality scoring chances.

The second frame started red hot with four total goals being scored. Three of them coming from the Lancers.

Just 28 seconds in, David Deputy forced a turnover at the attacking blue line and netted an unassisted breakaway goal for his ninth of the season. Pulling the Lancers ahead, 2-1.

Immediately following suit was Nick Pierre just 90 seconds later on a one-timer off a feed from Christian Kocsis to go ahead by two. But that lead would be short lived.

Two minutes later, Adam Pietila buried his 13th goal of the season to pull the Phantoms within one, but six whole seconds later, Pierre struck again. Scoring his ninth of the season and fourth goal in two games to regain the two goal lead and go ahead 4-2.

Following a plethora of miscellaneous penalties over the course of ten minutes. Ethan Fredericks would score low, blocker side on Youngstown Goaltender, Owen Bartoszkiewicz, making it a 5-2 lead for Omaha. And forcing a goalie change after the Lancers scored five goals on 12 shots.

The Lancers failed to find the net in the closing six minutes of play, as they would conclude the second frame with 12 shots on goal. In that shotless time, Daniel Jencko send one short-side on Lancers netminder, Lucas Szyszka to make it a 5-3 game at the second break.

The scoring drastically slowed for the third period, but Fredericks was able to burying his second goal of the night for an unassisted, ninth goal of the season. Grabbing a rebound in his own end, taking it 200 feet the other way and scoring top shelf on Colin Winn to net what would be the final goal of the night, making it a 6-3 win for Omaha.

The Lancers will be back at the Covelli Centre for a rematch tomorrow night (1/5) for a 6:05PM CST. puck drop with the Phantoms. That game will be available on FloSports and Mixlr.
