Gameday: Adirondack vs. Elmira
February 9, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup is the sixth meeting between the Adirondack Thunder and the Elmira Jackals. The Thunder hold the edge thus far going 3-1-0-1 in the first five installments with the last meeting resulting in a 1-0 win at First Arena in Elmira on January 17th, with forward James Henry scoring the lone goal. The East Division rivals will face off five more times after Tuesday with the next meeting being a back-to-back set in Elmira on February 19th and 20th.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Thunder have two games remaining on their six-game homestand, tonight against Elmira and Friday night against the Wheeling Nailers. Adirondack has split the first four games, going 1-1 against both Reading and Norfolk. Each of the wins for Adirondack came by at least a three-goal margin, while both losses were one-goal games, where the visitors scored a game winner late in the third period. After Friday's game, the Thunder hit the road for two games in Reading before returning home to face off with Wheeling again next Tuesday.
SILEN NIGHT: Jeff Silengo's two-point outing on Saturday increased his team best point streak to five games at home and four games overall. The forward's tenth goal of the season came a little over five minutes into the game and kicked off the five-goal outing for the Thunder. Silengo later assisted on Mitchell Heard's third period goal that gave Adirondack a 4-1 lead.
MITCHELL AND NESS: On top of being second on the Thunder in scoring with 32 points (12-20-32), Mitchell Heard has a +19 rating, good enough for eighth best in the ECHL among active players. Heard's two-goal performance helped lead his team to a 5-1 victory on Saturday night against Norfolk.
15TH CENTURY: The Adirondack Thunder moved to 2-0 when playing a game with less than the allowed 16 skaters. Due to AHL call-ups for Ryan Culkin (Stockton) and Joe Faust (Albany), the Thunder were forced to play with just 15 skaters in Saturday's win over the Admirals. The Thunder were down to 15 skaters once before and defeated Greenville 2-0 on November 29 at the Civic Center.
SHOOT TO THRILL: The Thunder threw 47 shots at the Norfolk net on Saturday, falling one shy of their season high shot total, which they set on November 25 in a 5-4 shootout loss to Elmira (48). The Thunder were able to break their home record, previously set at 46 in a 6-5 shootout loss to Manchester on January 22.
