Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Tuesday that they have signed goaltender Keegan Asmundson to a standard players' contract (SPC).
The 25-year-old Asmundson arrives in Indy with 10 games of ECHL experience, including seven contests this year with the Evansville IceMen. The 6-foot-5, 223-pound netminder posted a 2-1 record with a 1.67 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in three appearances last spring with the South Carolina Stingrays, his first taste of professional hockey.
The rookie is coming off an illustrious four-year career at Canisius College (N.Y.), where he re-wrote the program's goaltending record book. Asmundson's career 2.08 goals against average and .930 save percentage with the Golden Griffins are both the best in school history, and his 1.96 goals against average and .930 save percentage during the 2014-15 campaign are Canisius single-season records. A native of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Asmundson was named to the All-Atlantic Hockey Second Team after his senior season, winning the conference's Goalie of the Month honors twice.
Asmundson joins the Fuel right before the team leaves on a two-week, six-game road trip starting Friday night against the ECHL-leading Missouri Mavericks. After three games this weekend at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, Indy heads to Florida for three against the Orlando Solar Bears, before returning to Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Feb. 23.
Next Home Game: Tuesday, Feb. 23 vs. Missouri Mavericks - 7:05 p.m. It's Pucks & Paws night as the Fuel return from their road trip to take on Missouri at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
