Adirondack Thunder News Release

WHO: Adirondack Thunder (38-22-3-4) @ Worcester Railers (31-26-4-4)

WHAT: ECHL REGULAR SEASON GAME #903

WHEN: Wednesday, March 28, 2018 @ 7:05 PM

WHERE: DCU Center - Worcester, MA

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The Adirondack Thunder are back at it this evening as they visit the Worcester Railers to begin their final five-game stretch of the regular season. Adirondack enters tonight's action off of a split last weekend in Manchester, which ended with a 5-3 Thunder victory on Saturday evening.

ONE MORE: The Adirondack Thunder enter tonight's action needing just one point to clinch a berth in the 2018 Kelly Cup Playoffs. With a point, the Thunder would also clinch a Top 3 seed in the division as Brampton, Worcester and Wheeling would each be unable to catch them. Currently, the Manchester Monarchs are the lone team in the North Division to clinch a playoff berth.

MR. 500: Thunder defenseman Mathieu Brodeur appeared in his 500th career professional regular season game on Saturday. In his career, Brodeur has skated in 182 ECHL games, including 130 with Adirondack, and 318 AHL games. To date, the 6-6 blueliner has played for seven AHL teams (San Antonio, Portland, Chicago, Albany, Syracuse, Springfield, Utica) as well as two ECHL teams (Adirondack, Las Vegas).

SUGAR SHANE: Thunder forward Shane Conacher led the way on Saturday evening as he collected three points (2-1-3) in the 5-3 win over Manchester. Conacher tied an ECHL career best with two goals and his trio of points marked the seventh time this season he's amassed three or more points. Overall, Conacher leads the Thunder with 41 assists and 58 points from 50 games played this season.

CATCHER IN THE RY: Adirondack forward Ryan Schmelzer collected the first goal and assist of his professional career on Saturday in Manchester. The 6-2 center scored the game's first goal late in the opening period and assisted on Conacher's tally in the second. Schmelzer joined the Thunder last week from Canisius College, where ranked in the top three on his team in scoring in each of the last three seasons.

SIEGFRIED AND TROY: Thunder forward Troy Bourke matched Conacher's three points as he netted a goal and two assists in the win over the Monarchs. Bourke's three-point effort marks his seventh multi-point game of the season and the fifth time he's amassed three or more points. The 5-10 forward has collected 27 points (8-19-27) from 18 games played and leads all Thunder players this season with 1.50 points-per-game.

APPLE PICKING: The NHL's New Jersey Devils reassigned goaltender Ken Appleby to Adirondack yesterday. Appleby led the Thunder with a 17-9-2 record during the 2015-16 season, in addition to a 7-5 record in post-season play. The 6-4 netminder made his NHL debut earlier this season with New Jersey and posted a 1.45 goals against average and a .945 save percentage from three games played with the Devils.
