Rangers Assign Chris Nell to Swamp Rabbits

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today that goaltender Chris Nell has been reassigned by the New York Rangers to Greenville from the Hartford Wolf Pack. The rookie netminder has split time between the AHL and ECHL this season.
Nell, 23, has played 18 games for the Wolf Pack this season, earning an 8-8-0-0 record. The Green Bay, Wisconsin native has also earned an 3.15 goals against average and .892 save percentage in his rookie season. Nell has also played nine games in the ECHL this season, splitting time between the Kansas City Mavericks and the Adirondack Thunder. In those games, the 6-foot-1 prospect has earned a 4-4-0-0 record, 3.15 goals against average, and .895 save percentage. In his last outing with the Wolf Pack, Nell made 30 saves on 31 shots to top the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Nell signed with the Rangers at the tail end of the 2016-17 season and made his pro debut with the Wolf Pack on Apr. 1. The Bowling Green State University alum played three seasons at his alma mater before signing his first pro deal. In three seasons with the Falcons, Nell finished his tenure with a 41-29-10 record, 2.07 goals against average, .922 save percentage and 11 shutouts. As a sophomore, he was a First Team All-WCHA representative after posting a school record four shutouts, 1.91 goals against average . 930 save percentage.
Before enrolling at Bowling Green, Nell played two seasons for the Chicago Steel in the USHL. In 68 career appearances, Nell faced over 2,000 shots on net and ended his junior career with a 20-33-2-0 record, 3.27 goals against average, .905 save percentage, and one shutout.
Nell joins the Swamp Rabbits who face the Florida Everblades tonight in Estero, Florida. The 7:30 p.m. game begins a three-game trek for Greenville in the Sunshine State.
