Americans @ Winterhawks
Friday, April 2 | Portland, OR | Veterans Memorial Coliseum
Start Time: 5:00 p.m PDT
The Americans hit the road to take on the Portland Winterhawks today at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. After defeating Portland once prior in overtime, the Americans will look to start the game strong and hand the Winterhawks their second regulation loss of the season.
Tonight's Match-Up:
Tri-City (2-3-0-0) | Portland (4-1-2-0)
Tri-City and Portland have played once prior this season on opening night at the Toyota Center when the Americans took a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory. Since then Portland has suffered only two losses, once to the Silvertips, also in overtime, and once to the Thunderbirds.
On opening night the Americans shined on the power play scoring two of their three goals against the Winterhawks with a man advantage, including the game-winning overtime goal from Sam Huo. Nine different Americans players found the scoresheet with a point.
Since his big opening night overtime goal, Huo has continued to contribute and leads the Americans with four goals. Reece Newkirk is Portland's leading scorer with three goals and five assists.
Last Game:
The Americans traveled to Everett on Sunday to take on the Silvertips for the third time in an eight day period. The Silvertips' dominance continued as they took a 6-1 victory over the Americans.
Mason Dunsford, a 17-year-old native of Westminster, BC, made his first start in net this season and stopped 30 of 36 shots faced.
Sam Huo netted Tri-City's only goal of the night just 1:27 into the second period. The goal, Huo's fourth of the season, came off a cross-crease feed from Sasha Mutala.
Recently signed Americans prospect Alex Serraglio also made his WHL debut.
