Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Regina, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (3-6-1-1) were shut out 3-0 by the Winnipeg ICE (7-4-0-0) in the Subway Hub Centre at the Brandt Centre in Regina on Friday evening.
The Raiders thought they opened the scoring just after an ICE penalty expired. Ozzy Wiesblatt had the puck, deked around a defender and got a backhander off on Gage Alexander. The puck trickled through the ICE goaltender, however the goal was waved off on the ice. There was a brief discussion, but the play stood as called on the ice.
Reece Vitelli had a great chance to open the scoring just after a Raiders penalty expired, setting up a two-on-one with Eric Pearce who was getting out of the box. Vitelli kept and took the shot, but it found the crossbar and stayed out.
Winnipeg's best chance came on a partial breakaway for Michael Milne. His attempt on goal was stopped by Max Paddock after a couple of quick movements of the forward's stick near the top of the crease.
In the second, the ICE took advantage of a major penalty assessed to Dallyn Peekeekoot, who was given the penalty and a game misconduct for charging. Peyton Krebs put a shot on goal that was handled by the blocker of Paddock, but Cole Muir was able to bat it out of the air and into the Raiders net to open the scoring at 2:51 mark.
After two minutes of four-on-four action, Winnipeg struck again on the major. Connor McClennon's pass found the stick of Owen Pedersen who chipped it in to give the ICE a 2-0 lead 6:26 into the middle frame.
The ICE added to their lead 3:33 into the third period on a rush into the Raiders end. Skylar Bruce hit Milne with a backdoor pass, who snapped it past a sprawling Paddock to make it a 3-0 game in favour of Winnipeg.
Wiesblatt had another great chance to get on the board. He was sprung on a breakaway and got Alexander moving the wrong direction. However, Karter Prosofsky was able to catch him and make enough of an impact on Wiesblatt that the puck went wide.
The Raiders had a late power play in the third period looking to get on the board. With Paddock pulled for the extra attacker, the Raiders weren't able to solve Alexander. Michael Horon had a one-timer attempt at the front of the net, but Alexander turned it aside.
Paddock in his return to the lineup stopped 15 shots for the Raiders. Alexander made all 31 saves to pick up the shutout for the ICE.
The Raiders are back in action on Saturday night against the Swift Current Broncos (3-7-1-0) in the Subway Hub Centre. Puck drop is 8 p.m. Catch the game on WHL Live on CHL TV.
