SaskTel Game Preview

The Saskatoon Blades look to extend their season-leading win streak to eight games, battling the Moose Jaw Warriors in the second of four matches this season.

Saskatoon is coming off a historic 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg ICE, led by a 29-save performance from Nolan Maier to set a new franchise record for career victories (86).

Saskatoon's daunting 9-0-1-0 record places them firmly in first place in the East Division, and they remain the only team in the Eastern Conference without a regulation loss.

In what's being recognized as the best start in the organization's 57-year history, Saskatoon has outscored its opponents 43-23 - currently the second-highest goals-for mark across the WHL.

Moose Jaw is playing the second of a back-to-back, having dropped last night's game against Swift Current 8-5. They head into this one winless in six straight.

Higher for Maier

Veteran goaltender Nolan Maier inked his name into Blades lore Wednesday night, earning his seventh victory of the season and record-setting 86th of his career.

This passes the previous record, set by Tim Cheveldae 33 years ago. This is far from the only record in reach for the Yorkton, SK product, however.

The career-Blade needs one more shutout to match Andrey Makarov's record of nine, and is 33 starts away from catching Braden Holtby's record for most games (177).

Tale of the Tape

Saskatoon and Moose Jaw opened their season series on March 21st, with the Blades earning a 3-1 victory.

2001-born forward Evan Patrician was named the game's first star after recording his first career two-goal game, and goaltender Nolan Maier stopped 20 of 21 shots to earn second-star honours.

But Saskatoon's success against Moose Jaw stretches well beyond March of 2021. Last year, Saskatoon won five of six against the Warriors, with their only loss coming in overtime (5-4 on October 27th). Since that loss, Saskatoon has rattled off seven straight victories over Moose Jaw.

Who to Watch

Left-winger Colton Dach has climbed his way into the team's goal-scoring lead with seven on the season; five of which over the last three games. The 18-year-old has lit the lamp in three straight games, including a pair of multi-goal efforts against Regina and Prince Albert.

2019 1st-round pick Brandon Lisowsky sits fourth in rookie scoring with eight points in 10 games, including netting his fourth goal of the season against Winnipeg on Wednesday.

San Jose Sharks 'Prospect of the Week' Tristen Robins has a history of success against Moose Jaw, leading the team in scoring with 12 points (6G-6A) in six games against the Warriors last season. The 2nd round pick to San Jose sits second in team scoring, and is currently riding a seven-game point streak.

Filling the Void

The Saskatoon Blades will be without their captain and one of their most dependable blueliners for a second straight game.

Chase Wouters and Rhett Rhinehart are serving suspensions stemming from the Blades 4-0 win over Prince Albert on Monday. Wouters was handed a three-game suspension following a cross-checking major, and Rhinehart will miss his second of a two-game suspension for supplemental discipline.

Three-year captain Wouters is currently second in team scoring with 13 points (5G-8A) in nine games, and is in his final year in the WHL.

6-foot-4, 223-pound Rhinehart has six points (1G-5A) in eight games, and has points in three straight games.
