Promotion: Today is the annual Fire on Ice game between the Ontario Fire Department and LA County Fire. The puck will drop at 2 p.m. for this charity game benefitting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Reign fan favorite, Jon Francisco will be playing in this game in his one-time return to Citizens Business Bank Arena - don't miss it! There will be a chili cookoff outside the arena after the charity game with the Reign game starting at 6 p.m.
TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (38-17-2-3) will host the Idaho Steelheads (32-23-3-4) for their final meeting during the 2013-14 regular season. This game also marks the Reign's final Mountain Division team match-up of the regular season. Ontario has a 3-0-0-1 record over the Steelheads with their most recent victory coming on Wednesday night at home. The Reign took a 4-1 lead less than halfway through the game but the Steelheads rallied to come within just one goal with eight seconds left in the game; Ontario held on to earn the much needed two points. Last night the Aces took a two-point lead over the Reign in this neck-and-neck battle for first.
SHOT COUNTER:
The Reign have consistently had at least 30 shots on goal with an average of 31.02 per game. The Reign are among the top teams when it comes to shots-against with an average of just 26.53 opponent shots getting on goal. When the Reign outshoot their opponent, which they have done 36 times this season, they have a 25-9-1-1 record. On the flipside, they still have the edge when being outshot by an opponent with a 9-8-1-2 record.
OVERTIME?
Earlier this season the Reign were notorious for going into overtime and shootout deciders with eight of their first 20 games following that pattern. This overtime record put them to the top of the league in overtime games early. In recent times, they have seen much less overtime action with their past 12 games ending in regulation. So far they have 17 overtime games on the season and remain in first with a .706 win percentage on those games. Utah took the league-lead in overtime games when they reached their 18th of the season on Mar. 8 against the Stockton Thunder.
FIRST ON THE BOARD:
The Reign rank third in the league with a 22-4-1-1 record good for a .821 win percentage when getting that first goal. When Ontario gets the lead after the first period, chances are good they will be able to hold on to that lead as they have done 19 times this season. The Reign's record when leading after the first period is 19-1-1-1.
