Utah Grizzlies News Release
Stockton, California - The Utah Grizzlies (30-21-3-5) defeated the Stockton Thunder (28-23-0-6) 4-1 Saturday night at Stockton Arena. With the win, the Grizzlies matched their win total from last year with 12 games left in the regular season.
The Grizzlies took control of the game with special teams by going 2-4 on the power-play and 4-4 on the penalty-kill against Stockton's top ranked power-play as the Grizzlies bounced back after allowing a power-play goal in the final minute last night in a 3-2 loss.
Ducks prospect Andrew O'Brien scored his first pro goal 17:06 into first period on assists from David Vallorani (two goals, one assist) and Vinny Scarsella as the rookie blasted a cannon from the high-slot.
After killing two penalties in the second period on some great goaltending from Igor Bobkov and a couple of great plays, Utah made it 2-0 with one minute left to go in the second period. David Vallorani scored his 21st goal of the season going to the net on tic-tac-toe passes from Michael Pelech and Mathieu Aubin.
The Grizzlies broke it open in the third period by scoring two goals in 18 seconds at 5:06 and then 5:24 into the frame.
First, Mathieu Aubin's 13th goal of the year on a pass from Michael Pelech made it 3-0 as Channing Boe sent in a puck from the point that was corralled by Pelech on the side of the net and he rolled it through the crease for Aubin on the opposite side and he had a wide open net.
David Vallorani sent in a puck from the circle for his 22nd goal of the year and 2nd of the night to make it 4-0 with Martin Lee and Michael Folkes drawing assists.
Stockton scored a shorthanded goal with 8:46 left as the Grizzlies up 4-0 lost focus momentarily.
Igor Bobkov improved to 13-6-2-2 by stopping 18 of 19 shots. Mathieu Aubin (one goal, one assist) and Michael Pelech (two assists) also had multiple-point games.
The Grizzlies return home Wednesday for the team's next Wild $2 Wednesday; featuring $2 Hot Dogs, $2 Fries, $2 Soft Drinks, $2 Draft Beers and $5 Student Tickets.
Utah hosts Colorado on Friday and Idaho on Saturday, March 22 for Military Night presented by ATK Thiokol.
Ticket packages for the 2013-2014 season are still on sale and start at just $29. For more information, visit http://www.utahgrizzlies.com or call (801) 988-7825.
