
Road Warriors Lose Close Game to Stingrays 2-1

Greenville, SC: Despite scoring first, the Road Warriors could not hold the Stingrays down in a 2-1 loss on Sunday evening.
The Road Warriors started the first period by taking an early lead 1:12 in. Andrew Yogan scored his second goal of the season with a turnaround goal past Allen York to put Greenville up 1-0. The Stingrays challenged Jeff Malcolm early on, outshooting the Road Warriors 5-1 midway through the period. Peter Boyd tied the game at one at 9:41 scoring his 22nd goal of the year with a power play tally. With three minutes left in the period, Luke Greiner put the Stingrays up 2-1 with one-timer goal. It was his sixth goal of the year and Dale Mitchell got the assist. The period ended with the Road Warriors trailing by one.
The second period started with the Road Warriors increasing traffic in front York. Midway through the period the Road Warriors were outshooting South Carolina 4-1 and despite many scoring opportunities, including a power play, the Road Warriors were unable to score a goal in the second period. Malcolm held the Stingrays and shutdown both of South Carolina's power plays. The period ended with the Road Warriors out shooting the Stingrays 9-7, but still down 2-1.
Greenville outshot South Carolina 17-12 throughout the third period but were unable to get a shot past York. Malcolm stopped all twelve of South Carolina's shots to keep the Road Warriors in the game, but the Road Warriors were unable to capitalize on any scoring opportunities. Malcolm was pulled in the final minutes but no offensive chances found the back of the net to give South Carolina a 2-1 win. Malcolm made 29 saves in the loss.
The Road Warriors are back in action Thursday night when they host the Florida Everblades at 7 p.m. Buy one ticket, get the second one free when you show your BI-LO BONUSCARD at the box office starting two hours before the game. As a part of the Youth Sports Night festivities, the Road Warriors will celebrate the young athletes in our community and recognize their accomplishments. Clemson fans can meet the Clemson Tiger, and visit the Greenville Clemson Club, IPTAY and Alumni Association tables on the concourse to receive Clemson prizes and giveaways. The first 1,000 fans 12 and under will receive a Road Warriors Youth Cap presented by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and 92.5 WESC.
