York Backstops Stingrays over Road Warriors; Lavin Recalled to Providence

Greenville, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (37-19-2-3) took down the Greenville Road Warriors (33-22-2-3) 2-1 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena Sunday afternoon to close a three-game in three-day weekend.

Road Warriors forward Andrew Yogan kicked of the scoring 1:12 into the game lifting a wrist shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Allen York (W, 34 saves on 35 shots) from the right-wing circle. The Stingrays responded with a power-play tally off of leading scorer Peter Boyd's stick at 9:41 catching a pass from forward Nick Larson for his 21 goal of the season. Defenseman Derrick Pallis added the second assist. Late in the frame, forward Luke Greiner completed a 2-on-1 rush with forward Dale Mitchell beating Road Warriors goalie Jeff Malcolm (L, 29 saves on 31) to give the Stingrays a 2-1 lead at 16:47.

After a scoreless second stanza, the Road Warriors peppered the Stingrays net with a game-high 17 shots in the third period including several chances within the final minutes, by York held on to preserve the victory. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-2.

Just before the opening faceoff, defenseman Joe Lavin was recalled to the Stingrays' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins. The Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, native skated with the Stingrays Friday and Saturday against the Gwinnett Gladiators picking up an assist and now has two assists in five total games with the Stingrays this season. Earlier this season, Lavin appeared in two games with the Bruins adding one assist.

The Stingrays celebrate Military Appreciation Night with Lowcountry Harley-Davidson on Saturday, March 22 against the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
