RUBBER MATCH: Louisville and Pawtucket square off for the final time at Louisville Slugger Field this season with a potential series win hanging in the balance after the Bats evened things up on Wednesday in a 10-8 win. Tonight, left-hander Eric Stout makes his ballpark debut after making his first 2 career Bats starts on the road at Norfolk and Charlotte. With a win tonight, the Bats will have their second series victory at home this season, taking 2 of 3 from the Charlotte Knights from May 10-12.
AGAINST PAWTUCKET: The Bats regained the edge in the all-time series with their win on Wednesday, improving to 92-91 all-time against the PawSox and 41-35 at Louisville Slugger Field. After dropping 2 of 3 in each of their series against Pawtucket last season, LOU will try to win its first series against the top affiliate of the Boston Red Sox since taking 3 of 4 at LSF from August 15-17, 2017.
AQUINO HIT STREAK: Right fielder Aristides Aquino extended his hitting streak to 16 games yesterday with a first inning home run, now owning the second-longest Louisville hitting streak over the past 5 seasons (2015-19). During the streak, Aquino is batting .344 (22-for-64) with a double, 5 home runs, 10 RBI and 3 walks, with a .382 on-base percentage and an OPS of .976.
Longest Bats Hitting Streaks - Since 2015
Player Games Dates
Nick Senzel 18 6/9/18-4/30/19
Aristides Aquino 16 5/23/19-pres.
Hernan Iribarren 15 7/2/16-7/21/16
TEN-FOUR!: Aquino joins Brian O'Grady (15), Josh VanMeter (13) and Nick Longhi (10) as Louisville players with 10+ home runs this season. In 2018, Gabriel Guerrero (17), D.J. Peterson (16), VanMeter (11) and Steve Selsky (10) accomplished the feat by season's end, becoming the first quartet of Louisville teammates to do that since 2011, when 6 players did it: Daniel Dorn (18), Jeremy Hermida (17), Juan Francisco (15), Devin Mesoraco (15), Todd Frazier (15) and Yonder Alonso (12).
WALK THE NINE: The Bats drew 9 walks as an offense in Wednesday's win, the most they have drawn as a team since June 9, 2015, when they recorded 9 walks in a 7-4, 11-inning win at Columbus. Yesterday marked the most walks in a 9-inning game for a Bats team since April 27, 2014, when LOU drew 12 walks in a 2-1 win at Buffalo.
'19 PASSES '14, '15, '16: Aquino and Narciso Crook both homered yesterday, with Crook's making it his first career Triple-A home run. The roundtrippers give Louisville 77 homers on the season, surpassing their 2014 team total (76), after already passing their 2015 (66) and 2016 (72) home runs totals. Louisville is on pace to hit approximately 166 home runs this season, which would actually tie the franchise's single-season record, when the 1999 Redbirds hit 166 homers.
JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS OUT...: Louisville led 4-0 after the first inning yesterday, then gave up the lead with Pawtucket's 6-run top of the second, only to retake the lead 7-6 in the bottom of the inning, eventually winning by a 10-8 score. Louisville actually gave up a 4-0 lead and still won the game as recently as May 30 at Durham, allowing the Bulls to make it a 4-4 game before the Bats won 11-6, capped off by a 6-run inning of their own in the ninth.
