Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (26-40) fell to the Pawtucket Red Sox (28-37) by a score of 10-8 in the series finale at Louisville Slugger Field. Aristides Aquino extended his season-high hit streak to 17 games in the loss. The all-time series between Pawtucket and Louisville is now tied at 92-92.
For the second game in a row, the Bats scored quickly, taking advantage of a fielding error by the PawSox to plate two runs in the first on a double by Phillip Ervin and a triple by Aristides Aquino. With the three-bagger, Aquino extended his hitting streak to 17 games. He is now one game away from tying Nick Senzel for the longest hitting streak by a Bat since 2015, but still nine games away from reaching Brandon Larson's all-time Bats record of 26 games in 2003.
Pawtucket bounced back in the second, scoring two runs to even the score. The Bats would score three more runs in the bottom of the second to take back the lead, but Pawtucket responded in the top of the third, tying the game once again. With the game knotted at 5 in the fifth inning, the Bats manufactured three runs on two singles, two walks, and a hit batter. However, the PawSox answered immediately for the third time, scoring three to tie the game again, this time at 8.
The game was close for the duration even though Pawtucket had twice as many hits as the Bats. Only two of Louisville's seven hits were for extra bases, so the Bats instead utilized countless methods besides power to advance runners, including two wild pitches, two errors, a balk, a hit batter, and a stolen base. But it would not be enough, as the PawSox took the lead for the first time in the game in the eighth inning, and the Bats could not mount a comeback, losing 10-8. Former Bat Domingo Tapia (1-0, 3.50) got the win for Pawtucket, and Robert Stephenson (0-1, 4.50) took the loss.
The Bats begin the second series of the six-game homestand on Friday against the Buffalo Bisons. Right hander Lucas Sims (3-0, 4.56) will take the mound for the Bats, and he will face off against Buffalo lefty Ryan Feierabend (3-1, 5.60). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
