Intimidating Starter: Tyler Barnette, 22, makes his eight start and 15th appearance of the season when he faces a Yankees affiliate for the first time today. The Hickory, N.C., native is coming off a scoreless relief appearance June 13 (1.2 IP) after his final scheduled start of the First Half was rained out on June 11. In his most recent start, Barnette worked 5.0 innings at Asheville and allowing two runs (one earned) in a no decision. The reliever-turned-starter is 2-4 with an 8.80 ERA (29 ER/29.2 IP) in seven starts compared to 0-0 with 0.52 ERA (1 ER/17.1 IP) in seven games out of the bullpen. Barnette set a new career-high with seven strikeouts in his May 14 win against Delmarva in the first quality start of this career, tying his career-high with six innings of work. The White Sox selected Barnette in the 14th round of the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of UNC Charlotte where he earned Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year in 2011. Last season during his professional debut, he went 1-4 with a 5.73 ERA in 13 games (six starts).

Dealin' Dog: Rookie Davis, 21, opens the Second Half for Charleston with his 13th start of the season. He finished the First Half with his best outing since Opening Day, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings to earn a win at Lexington on June 13. Davis spun 5.0 frames of scoreless ball for a win at Augusta on April 3. A native of Sneads Ferry, N.C., he suffered a string of six straight losing decisions from April 26 to June 8 before snapping that skid in his final start before the All-Star break. Davis is holding left-handed hitters to a .233 average while righties are batting .296 against him. The Yankees selected him in the 14th round of the June 2011 draft out of Dixon High School, and he made his pro debut in 2012 with the GCL Yankees, going 2-1 with a 265 ERA in 7 games (one start). He split 2013 between Short-A Staten Island (2-4, 2.36 ERA in 11 starts) and Charleston (0-0, 0.00 in two starts).

Last Time Out: Robinson Leyer tossed 6.0 strong innings but the bullpen gave up six runs in the seventh inning as the Greensboro Grasshoppers clinched the Northern Division First Half Championship with a 7-1 win over the Intimidators on Sunday.

Ski's Streak Snapped: Trey Michalczewski saw both his career-long 17-game hitting streak and 19-game on-base streak end in Sunday's First Half finale against Greensboro with an 0-4 afternoon. During his streak, the 19-year-old third baseman hit .371 (23-62) with 13 of his 23 hits going for extra bases (eight doubles, a triple, and four home runs) and 15 RBI from May 27 to June 14. The 17-game hitting streak is tied for the fourth-longest in the South Atlantic League this season. During the streak, Michalczewski was named SAL Player of the Week for the week of June 2-8.

All-Star Anderson: Matt Abramson pitched a scoreless inning in Tuesday's 55th Annual SAL All-Star Game for the Northern Division squad, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two batters. Abramson is 0-3 with a 4.18 ERA with five saves in six chances in 14 relief appearances for Kannapolis. He was named to the All-Star Game Sunday after Intimidators starting pitcher Jake Sanchez, the team's lone All-Star selection, was traded by the White Sox to Stockton (High-A, Athletics) for Triple-A outfielder Michael Taylor on Saturday.
