Reno Aces News Release

Tonight's Game: Right-hander Riley Smith will take the ball for manager Chris Cron for his sixth start in an Aces uniform. The Louisiana State alum enters the contest with a 2-0 record and 4.45 ERA. He's made four quality starts in a row for the Aces which leads the team in the category. Taylor Widener and Braden Shipley each have three quality starts, good for second on the team. In Smith's last four outings, he owns a 1-0 record to go with an ERA of 2.55 in 24.2 innings pitched. His ERA is the second lowest in Pacific Coast League since the 4th of July, and his 24.2 innings pitched is good for third in the league. Fresno will counter with righty Logan Ondrusek who enters the game with a 4-4 record and 8.10 ERA. In his last start on July 23, he earned a no-decision tossing six innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits against Sacramento. This is the final contest between Reno and Fresno in 2019. The Grizzlies currently hold an 8-7 advantage in the season series.

Looking for a Sweep: With a victory tonight, it will be fourth sweep of the season for the Aces and second in a row. The Aces swept the Nashville Sounds on June 4-6. They swept the Salt Lake Bees on June 25-28. Lastly, they swept the Tacoma Rainiers on July 23-25. It would be the first time the Aces swept two consecutive series since they took four games from Tacoma and then four more against Memphis on May 4-11, 2012.

Win Streak: A win today would set the Aces 2019 record for wins in a row (6). The last time the Aces won five games in a row came on June 25-June 29 when they swept the Salt Lake Bees then took the first game against the Las Vegas Aviators. Abraham Almonte is leading the team offensively going 6-for-13 in three games played with two homers, six RBIs, and five runs scored. Domingo Leyba has played in all five games batting .357 with two home runs, five RBIs, and six runs scored.

Longball Snider: With outfielder Travis Snider's third inning two-run home run yesterday, it marked the second consecutive game the lefty homered. It is the first time Snider has homered in back-to-back games since he went yard in three straight games on 7/22-23/14 against the Los Angeles Dodgers while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He homered in his next plate appearance which came on 7/29/14 @ San Francisco to make it three straight games.

Big League AY: Former Ace Alex Young made his Major League debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 27 earning a win against the San Francisco Giants. Since the win, he hasn't slowed down at all. He has now thrown six games in the big leagues and owns a 4-0 record with a 2.51 ERA over 28.1 innings pitched to go with 20 strikeouts. Batters are hitting just .172 off the southpaw and he owns a 0.84 WHIP this season. He threw his second quality start for the D-backs last night against the Miami Marlins going six innings while surrendering two runs on eight hits. Young made 20 appearances for Reno in 2019 with eight starts. He went 4-3 with a 6.09 ERA over 54.2 innings pitched.

Gink': Kevin Ginkel earned his fifth save in five chances last night against Fresno. He's been stellar since taking over the closer role. The righty from the University of Arizona has struck out 34 batters in 15.1 innings this season to go with a .179 batting average against and 1.04 WHIP. He's listed as the D-backs No. 29 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
