Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
San Antonio right fielder Nate Orf drove in four runs and designated hitter David Freitas added three hits, while Omaha third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez and left fielder Elier Hernandez drove in two runs apiece in the Missions' 10-6 win over the Storm Chasers on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park.
Both teams traded single tallies, with Omaha striking first thanks to 2B Erick Mejia 's RBI single to center in the second. The Storm Chasers would then answer San Antonio's subsequent score when DH Jorge Bonifacio bashed a run-scoring single to center. After the Missions surged ahead with a five-run fifth, Omaha would even the contest at 6-6 with a four-run seventh that included two-run knocks from Gutierrez and Hernandez.
San Antonio, however, would strike back with a trio of tallies in the eighth powered by 3B Cory Spangenberg 's two-run single to grab a 9-6 advantage. The Missions would later add one more insurance tally in the top of the ninth before the game was called in the bottom of the ninth due to rain.
Freitas (3-5, RBI) posted a game-high three knocks, with CF Trent Grisham (2-3, 2 R, 3 BB) and LF Troy Stokes Jr. (2-4, 3 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB) adding multi-hit efforts. RF Brett Phillips (2-5, 2B, R), meanwhile, was the lone Omaha batter to record two or more knocks.
San Antonio reliever Daniel Coulombe (0.1 IP, K) earned the victory in support of starter Zack Brown (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 3 K). Omaha lefty Gabe Speier (1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB) suffered the defeat after Heath Fillmyer (1.2 IP, H, 2 K) opened with 1.2 shutout frames.
Following an off day on Monday, the Chasers begin a seven-game West Coast road trip, starting with a three-game series in Tacoma. First pitch of the series finale is scheduled for 9:05pm CT.
Omaha returns home to Werner Park on Wednesday, August 7 to start a seven-game homestand. First pitch of the series opener versus the Salt Lake Bees is set for 7:05pm CT.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
