Salt Lake Bees News Release

Eight was enough for the Salt Lake Bees on Saturday night, as they swept a doubleheader from the Albuquerque Isotopes. It was the fourth twinbill sweep for Salt Lake out of eight played this season.

In game one, the Bees launched three two run homers in an 8-4 win over the Isotopes. Salt Lake already led 2-1 in the second when Wilfredo Tovar singled and one out later, Taylor Ward belted his 23rd home run of the season to make it a 4-1 game. After Albuquerque picked up a run in the bottom of the second and following a 33 minute rain delay, Jose Rojas extended the lead to 6-2 with a two run homer in the fourth, his team leading 26th of the season. Josh Thole closed out the Bees' scoring in the sixth with a two run homer, his first with Salt Lake. Starter Alex Klonowski (1-5) earned his first win of the season, as he went six and two-third innings and allowed four runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. At one point, Klonowski retired 17 consecutive Albuquerque batters. Ward led the Bees with four hits, including a double and a home run, and two runs batted in.

In game two, the Bees rallied from a 5-0 deficit to edge Albuquerque 8-7. After starter Parker Bridwell gave up five unearned runs in the third, Nick Franklin belted a grand slam to make it a 5-4 game. It was Salt Lake's tenth bases loaded blast of the season, which ties the franchise record set in 2013. Kaleb Cowart tied the game in the fifth with a two out RBI single to left field. The Bees would take the lead in the sixth, as Rojas delivered a two out, two run single and Cowart drew a bases loaded walk. Albuquerque stroked three doubles in the seventh to score two and would eventually have the potential tying and winning runs on base, but Sam Freeman got Roberto Ramos to ground out for his second save of the season. Bridwell (6-4) picked up the win, as he went five innings and allowed five runs, all unearned, on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Rojas led with two hits and two runs batted in, while Cowart added one hit and two RBI.

Jared Walsh had six hits in the doubleheader and pitched a scoreless sixth inning in game two.
