ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians pitching staff came close to its second shutout in as many games and the offense boasted six runs for their ninth win in the past 13 games. Indianapolis wasted no time getting to Cardinals top pitching prospect Matthew Liberatore in the top of the first, with Diego Castillo lining a one-out single to center before Cal Mitchell blasted a two-run home run to right-center field for his sixth homer as an Indian this season. The Indians plated two more runs in the third inning on a double that one-hopped over the wall in left-center field from Kevin Padlo and an RBI groundout from Travis Swaggerty. In the sixth, Hoy Park scored after stealing second base and two subsequent throwing errors, and Jamie Ritchie came in on a looped single to shallow center from Castillo. The Redbirds finally infiltrated the scoring column with Moises Gomez's minor league-leading 31st home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth.

BACK TO EVEN: With last night's win and victories in 10 of their last 15 games, the Indians are now at the .500 mark for the first time since July 1 (37-37). They have not been above .500 since June 30 after three wins in a four-game stretch. The Indians have not lost consecutive games since 7/27-28 at Toledo.

PITCHING PERFORMS AGAIN: One night after tossing their sixth shutout of the season, the Indians held Memphis to just one run in the seventh inning on four hits last night. Starter Jerad Eickhoff threw 3.0 perfect innings with five strikeouts to open the game. Mike Burrows followed, working 4.0 scoreless innings before Moises Gomez's leadoff home run in the eighth inning. Joe Jacques finished out the eighth, and Hunter Stratton stranded a one-out baserunner in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.

CAL CRUSHED IT: For the second time in as many nights, a two-run homer put the Indians on the board and out of reach of the Memphis offense. In the top of the first inning with Diego Castillo on base, Cal Mitchell launched his sixth Triple-A homer and 10th of the season between Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. His last home run with Indianapolis came on May 13 at Charlotte when he went yard twice. Last night's homer extended Mitchell's hitting streak to each of his last four games with Indianapolis since being optioned by Pittsburgh, and he is now working a 10-game hitting streak with the Indians dating back to July 7. In 50 Triple-A games, Mitchell has hit safely in 40 of them and owns a staggering .324 average (60-for-185) with 21 extra-base hits.

PADLO POWER: Kevin Padlo went 3-for-5 last night for his second three-hit performance in four games with the Indians. He has multiple hits in three of his four games since joining Indy's roster for Thursday's doubleheader, good for a .533 average (8-for-15) with two doubles, one home run, six RBI and three runs scored. His three-hit game was his fifth season-high this season, two of which came with Triple-A Tacoma. Padlo was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh from Seattle last Sunday, and in 64 total Triple-A games between Sacramento, Tacoma and Indianapolis, he owns a .264 average (62-for-235) with 25 extra-base hits and 42 RBI.

DIEGO DOES IT: Diego Castillo went 3-for-5 with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored last night. Castillo has hit safely in each of his last four games and five of his last six, three of which have been multi-hit contests. His three hits last night tied his season high, first set on April 10 with Pittsburgh at St. Louis. In 12 games since being optioned by Pittsburgh, he has hit safely in nine games and is hitting .292 (14-for-48) with a double, home run, six RBI and five runs scored.

LEADING THE LEAGUE: The Indians continue to pace the International League with 34 triples, eight more than any of their counterparts. They narrowly trail Albuquerque (38) and Oklahoma City (35) for the most three-baggers in Triple-A this season. It is also the most triples the Indians have had in a single season since they led the International League with 40 three-baggers in 2016.

TODAY: After taking a series lead yesterday with their third win in the first five games at Memphis, the Indians will look to take their first lead of the series today at 3:05 PM ET at AutoZone Park. From June 21-26, the Indians and Redbirds split their first six-game series at Victory Field. Since 2021, which was the first time in history that the two teams met in the regular season, the Indians hold a 11-6 record against Memphis. In a rematch of the series opener, Miguel Yajure will take the mound against Thomas Parsons. Parsons earned the win over Yajure in the opener, tossing 6.0 two-hit innings. Yajure surrendered four earned runs in as many innings.

THIS DAY IN 1958: In the Indians' 11th consecutive victory, right fielder Johnny Callison and catcher John Romano were dubbed the "Home Run Twins" after they each hit a home run in their combined 6-for-6 day at the plate with three runs scored and four RBI. Indianapolis beat Louisville 7-2 thanks to a complete game by Jimmie 'Hot Rod' McDonald, who allowed just two earned runs on 11 hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
