Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Buffalo Bisons pitching staff once again limited the Syracuse Mets offense in a 2-0 shutout victory on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. The win was the Herd's ninth shutout win of the season.
The Bisons once again did not wait around to open up a lead against Syracuse. Gabriel Moreno hit a two-out double to center field that extended the top of the first inning, and he scored one batter later thanks to a Zack Collins RBI single. The at-bat was Moreno's first since August 5 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Collins had a hand in Buffalo's win on Saturday with three RBIs.
Chavez Young used his speed to double the Bisons lead to 2-0 in the top of the second. The outfielder collected a two-out single, then stole two bases. An errant throw by Mets catcher Patrick Mazeika allowed Young to score after the ball rolled down the left field line. The stolen bases gave Young 20 on the season for Buffalo.
Shaun Anderson made the start for the Bisons and went 2.1 scoreless innings. It was the right hander's second start of the series. Lefty Nick Allgeyer took over with one out in the bottom of the third and recorded the final two outs of the inning to preserve Buffalo's 2-0 lead over Syracuse.
Allgeyer was one of five relievers for the Bisons to help hold Syracuse to six hits in the shutout victory. Matt Gage recorded his tenth save of the season in as many tries by securing the final three outs of the game.
The Herd pounded out 12 hits in the game, led by Otto Lopez's three-hit day. It was the 19th multi-hit performance for the utilityman with the team this season.
Buffalo returns home to Sahlen Field on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. It is the first game of a two-week, 12-game homestand that will see the Columbus Clippers visit Downtown Buffalo for the second half of the homestand.
