LAST TIME OUT

MOOSIC, PA - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (57-52) were defeated by the Worcester Red Sox 7-6 in a seesaw battle on Saturday evening. Rob Brantly was 2-for-4 with a pair of run-scoring doubles.

The teams traded a pair of runs in the second with RBI singles from Devlin Granberg and Phillip Evans. Worcester then plated four more in the third to jump ahead 5-1. Ronaldo Hernández hit a three-run long ball to break the tie and Connor Wong homered two batters later in his first start of the series. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sliced their four-run deficit in half with a two-spot in the bottom of the frame. Oswald Peraza started things off with his team-leading 16th home run of the season and Brantly lined the first of his two RBI doubles to right to make it 5-3. Peraza finished the night 2-for-5 with that big fly and three runs scored. The RailRiders tied the game in the fifth with two more tallies. Brantly doubled home his second run of the night and Armando Alvarez drove Brantly in the very next at-bat. Alvarez is 11-for-31 (.355) at the plate in eight starts during this home stand.

Worcester reclaimed control of the contest the sixth. SWB pitching walked four Red Sox in the inning as Worcester scored two runs to take a 7-5 lead. The RailRiders trimmed one off the lead in the seventh via a Ben Rortvedt two-base hit to left. However, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre couldn't mount another rally over the final two innings in the 7-6 final. A.J. Politi (4-0) earned his fourth victory out of Worcester's bullpen. Carlos Espinal (0-2) was saddled with the loss for SWB. Zack Kelly tallied his third save.

NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders welcome in the Worcester Red Sox for the first time this season. The WooSox have not been here since August 3 - August 8 when they took four of six games in that series.

HOME COOKIN' - The RailRiders have won six of ten games during this homestand. They have guaranteed a winning homestand.

BANGED UP - Through this twelve-game homestand (game 12 today), the RailRiders have suffered eight injuries of varying degrees. Estevan Florial missed two games but returned Friday. Oswald Peraza missed a game but returned Wednesday. Chris Owings was removed from a game on August 4 and missed two games before returning on the seventh. Jake Bauers was placed on the 7-Day injured list on August 8. Josh Breaux was placed on the 7-Day injured list on August 10. Both Michael Beltre and Ronald Guzmán have been day-to-day since Thursday. Tyler Wade was lifted in the sixth inning on Friday.

MY LIFE BE LIKE (W)OO AH - In their first seven games of the year against Worcester, the RailRiders went 2-5. In the last ten games, they have gone 7-3.

ARMANDO'S AUGUST - Armando Alvarez finds himself on an eight-game hitting streak, his longest this year. He has gone 11-for-31 (.355) with six doubles since August third. He has a hit in every game played in the month of August. Dating back to July 17, Alvarez has tallied a hit in 12 of his last 13 games played.

WIZARD OF OS - Since returning from a right shoulder injury on July 12, Oswaldo Cabrera is 28-for-89 (.315) with six homers, 20 RBI and 11 walks in 22 games. He enters Saturday with an official 17-game on-base streak. If you include last Sunday's rain-suspended game, that on-base streak is 18 which would match a season long for any RailRider. He has hits in nine of ten games played in August and is slashing .364/.436/.830 this month.

MÁN OF THE HOUR - Ronald Guzmán has a hit in 14 of his last 17 games dating back to July 8. In this stretch, he's gone 22-for-60 (.367) with eight doubles and four home runs. Entering Thursday, he has raised his average from .197 to .240 and his on-base percentage from .314 to .347.

ANOTHER DAY WEISSERT - Greg Weissert has not been charged with a run in 19 straight appearances, the longest stretch for any RailRiders pitcher this season. This scoreless streak has lasted 20.0 innings.

THIS IS FINE - On Friday, Worcester tallied 14 runs on 16 hits. Fourteen runs matched a season-high for any RailRiders' opponent this season (April 15, 14-7 loss to Norfolk). Sixteen hits came one shy of matching a season-high for a RailRiders' opponent this year. The WooSox also tallied five home runs, season-highs for both their offense and SWB's pitching staff.

ONE BIG SWING - Wednesday, Ronald Guzmán gave the RailRiders the lead in the eighth inning with a two-run homer for an eventual 3-2 win. They were trailing 2-1 before the blast. It was just their fifth win this season when trailing after seven innings. It was the second time this season that the RailRiders took the lead with two outs in the eighth with a homer. Tim Locastro launched a solo shot on June 19 against the Rochester Red Wings for a 5-4 win.

AY BAY BAY -On Thursday, Chris Owings played one inning before being removed from the game as his wife Brittany went into labor with their second child. Before the game, Braden Bristo also left the team for the same reason as his wife Morgan went into labor. These two come after Max McDowell and his wife Emily celebrated the birth of their child back in July.

ON DECK - The RailRiders head out on the road for two weeks on Monday and won't be home again until August 30 to host the Syracuse Mets for their third to final homestand of the season.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (72-42) edged past the Boston Red Sox 3-2 on Saturday. Isiah Kiner-Falefa drove in all three runs including a two-run homer. Jameson Taillon faces Michael Wacha in the finale tonight at 7:08 PM... The Somerset Patriots (65-41) lost 9-2 to the Hartford Yard Goats. Randy Vasquez gets the ball today at 5:05 PM... The Hudson Valley Renegades (57-49) won 3-1 over the Aberdeen IronBirds. Richard Fitts went 6.2 innings with one run on five hits and seven strikeouts in his High-A debut. The series wraps today at 2:05 PM... The Tampa Tarpons (51-54) defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-3. The Tarpons took the lead in the ninth on a Luis Santos RBI single, scoring again on a passed ball. They close out today at 12:00 PM...
