Briceño Goes Deep But Omaha Comes up Short

TOLEDO, Ohio. - The Storm Chasers kept the Mud Hens off the scoreboard after the third inning, but Omaha (52-58) dropped game six to Toledo (58-52) 2-1 from Fifth Third Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Mud Hens started the game's scoring for just the second time in the series. Chris Rabago hit a single into centerfield to score Zach Short during the bottom of the second.

Left fielder Dairon Blanco started the third inning with a double before a hit by a pitch and a walk juiced the bases. The Storm Chasers stranded the bases loaded, leaving Toledo's lead at 1-0.

Josh Lester hit a solo homer off right-hander Jackson Kowar (Loss, 3-8) in the third to put the score at 2-0. After the home run, Kowar retired five batters in a row, getting through the fourth inning on just 12 pitches.

After allowing three runs in his start on Tuesday, Elvin Rodriguez (Win, 5-3) shutout Omaha and struck out seven Storm Chaser batters in his 6.0 innings of work.

Catcher José Briceño cut the deficit in half with a solo homer off Angel De Jesus in the eighth before De Jesus struck out the next three Chasers to finish the inning.

Omaha's pitching staff allowed just one hit in the fourth through eighth innings, with right-handers Ándres Núñez, Ryan Weiss, and Collin Snider and left-hander Anthony Misiewicz each throwing a scoreless inning.

The Storm Chasers were unable to put a runner on base in the ninth and dropped the series finale 2-1.

Omaha has Monday off before starting a six-game series at Louisville that starts on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. CDT with coverage starting at 5:15 on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame on 1180 The Zone.

After the road trip, the Chasers return home for a six-game set against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting on August 23.
