From the Notes
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: For a third straight game, the Indians failed to grab a lead en route to a third consecutive loss. The Stripers scored four times off Alex McRae in the second and ran away with a 7-2 win last night, their seventh in nine meetings with Indy this season. Adam Frazier got the Indians on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly, and his walk to open the sixth eventually led to a Kevin Kramer RBI single, but it wasn't enough as McRae suffered his team-high eighth loss. He allowed six runs on nine hits over four innings of work. Matt Wisler delivered seven innings of two-run ball for the home team on the heels of a seven-inning, one-run performance by Kolby Allard in the opener. The Stripers out-hit the Indians 13-6, led by a 2-for-4, four-RBI performance by shortstop Luis Marte.
MEADOWS RETURNS TO HIS NATIVE GEORGIA: Outfielder Austin Meadows was optioned by Pittsburgh on Sunday and officially joined the Indians today in his native Georgia, batting third and playing left field. Meadows, 23, hit .298 (45-for-151) with five homers, two triples, eight doubles, 13 RBI and four stolen bases in 48 games for the Buccos. The young phenom got off to an excellent start in the big leagues but faded down the stretch, resulting in him being optioned back to Indy. An in-depth look at his first 22 games and last 26 games with Pittsburgh is below:
First 22 games (19 starts): .346 average (27-for-78), .373 OBP, .654 SLG, 5 HR, 2 3B, 5 2B, 10 RBI, 4 BB, 11 K
Last 26 games (15 starts): .247 average (18-for-73), .291 OBP, .288 SLG, 0 HR, 0 3B, 3 2B, 3 RBI, 4 BB, 22 K
HEY THERE, FUTURES ALL-STAR: Mitch Keller rejoined the Tribe today after being reinstated from the temporary inactive list. He started for the U.S. Team in the MLB All-Star Futures Game and threw one shutout frame, striking out Chicago White Sox farmhand Luis Basabe to start the contest. The U.S. won the game 10-6, its eighth win in nine seasons over the World squad. Keller, 22, touched 99 on the stadium radar gun. He is expected to start the road-trip finale in Charlotte on Sunday.
DAMIEN DOMINATING: Damien Magnifico has shut down IL batters over his last four outings, allowing just three hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in eight shutout innings combined. The dominant stretch began after he walked a career-high tying six batters and surrendered six earned runs in 1.2 innings pitched at Columbus on July 1.
FRAZIER FLAVOR: Adam Frazier has impressed in the current series, despite Indy dropping each of the first two games. The utilityman is batting .500 (2-for-4) with one double, three walks, one hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly and two strikeouts. He has driven in two runs and scored twice.
JASON NOT JOKING AROUND: Jason Martin is batting .316 (18-for-57) with nine RBI through 15 Triple-A contests. He already has five multi-hit games with Indy and has hit safely in 12 of the 15 games he's played in thus far. Six of his 18 hits have gone for extra bases (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer).
BY THE NUMBERS - 62: Tribe legend Razor Shines, who starred for Indy from 1984-89 and 1991-93, celebrates his 62nd birthday today. Shines is on Indianapolis' all-time leaderboards in home runs (T-3rd, 68), RBI (4th, 404) and doubles (5th, 138). He appeared in 793 regular-season games for the Tribe over nine seasons.
