LAST TIME OUT: Late offense from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders helped them to an 8-4 win over the Toledo Mud Hens, using a four-run 8th inning to break a late tie.

The game became tied in the 4th inning, after an early 4-0 RailRiders lead evaporated. Toledo plated a run in the 3rd inning to chip away at the deficit, before the Hens walked with the bases loaded in the 4th inning to trim it to a 4-2 deficit. The next man up was Harold Castro, with the bases still loaded, and he clocked a two-run double to tie the game, 4-4.

The RailRiders began the scoring with three runs in the top of the second off Mud Hens starting pitcher Jacob Turner. With one down, Shane Robinson reached on a single; the first of five straight base hits. Francisco Diaz singled in Robinson for a 1-0 lead and L.J. Mazzilli followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 advantage. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added a run in the third on a double play ball to extend their lead to 4-0.

All of the Toledo offense came off Chance Adams who did not factor in the decision. The Mud Hens sent seven to the plate in the inning, scoring three times off Adams to knock him out of the game. The righty pitched 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts before handing it off to the bullpen. The RailRiders bullpen continues its excellent work over the last month of games, and especially in this series.

PITCHING STAYS HOT: The RailRiders pitching staff had turned a corner since the calendar flipped to July. In the first 14G in July, the staff has thrown 125.0 innings and has allowed 39R/30ER for a 2.16 ERA and has given up 2R-or-fewer in 12-of-14G. The team entered July with a 3.94 staff ERA and has lowered it to 3.66 despite Friday's performance where they allowed 9R/9ER on 16H to the Red Wings. If you subtract that effort from the month of July, in the other 13G the RailRiders have pitched to a 1.63 ERA (30R/21ER in 116.0 IP). Saturday's 4-0 shutout win was the team's 6th shutout win of the season, and was the first nine-inning shutout since June 1 @ Indianapolis, 37 games prior. It took just two days for them to record their next shutout in a 5-0 win Monday night @ Toledo.

ROLLING THROUGH THE BREAK: Over the last 33G the RailRiders have own a 23-10 record to bring them up to 2nd place in the International League North standings. The RailRiders are 8-0-3 in their last 11 series and won 6-of-7 games leading into the All-Star Break before dropping the first two games coming out of the break against Rochester. SWB won the final two games of their series in order to earn a split of the four-game set. They still have not lost a series since dropping 2-of-3 games June 5-7 against the Durham Bulls.

SLINGING IT: The RailRiders continue to get a strong performance out of its bullpen over the last two weeks. In the last 25G (since June 17), the bullpen arms (not named RHP A.J. Cole) have combined for 91.0 IP, 49 H (4.8 H/9) and 21R/16ER (1.58 ERA).

9 NO-HIT INNINGS: The RailRiders threw 9.0 no-hit innings Monday night at Fifth Third Field... sort of. After allowing a leadoff double to Leonys Martin to begin the game, Nestor Cortes, Raynel Espinal and Tommy Kahnle recorded 27 outs without allowing a hit. The last combined 1-hitter thrown by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre came July 14, 2016 @ Gwinnett (Chad Green, 8.0 IP // Kirby Yates, 1.0 IP). Meanwhile, the last individual 1-hitter for SWB was turned-in by Brett Myers April 25, 2002 vs. Toledo. Since then, Jeremy Cummings has thrown a no-hitter for the RailRiders Sptember 3, 2006 @ Rochester. RHP Chance Adams extended the streak to 11.2 IP before allowing a 2-out single in the 3rd inning Tuesday.
