From the Notes

YESTERDAY IN COLUMBUS: Indy dropped its second straight game in Columbus, 4-2, returning the Tribe to .500 and giving them their third series loss this season. Alex McRae surrendered two long balls and gave up six of the Clip-pers' seven hits and fell to 0-3 after the loss. A day after Columbus' Adam Plutko stifled Indy's offense, Jose Osuna put a crooked number on the board in the opening frame. His eighth double of the season supplied his club's only two runs of the evening. The Clippers answered with two runs of their own an inning later, and the homers that followed proved to be the difference in the Indians' 10th loss of the young season.

THOSE MEDDLING MUD HENS: Last season, Indy won the season series with Toledo by a single game, 13-12, despite winning just four road games in the series. The invading Indians went 2-6 in their first two four-game sets in Toledo before splitting the division rivals' final series of the season. During the first homestand of 2018, Indy escaped a possible sweep at the hands of the IL's best club behind a strong outing from Nick Kingham and timely hitting, nabbing a victory in the series' third game.

DOUSING THE FIRE: Through the first three games against the Mud Hens, Indy's bullpen staff worked out of some serious jams. Seven different relievers combined for a 1.13 ERA (2 ER/16.0 IP) compared to a 9.82 ERA (12 ER/11.0 IP) from the three starters. That mark from the relief staff remains their best ERA in a series this season.

NEAR PERFECTION: Nick Kingham got the nod to start in his first big league game with the Pirates Sunday and turned in an outing he may find hard to top. Through 6.2 innings, the gunslinger had not allowed a single baserunner. His perfect game was broken up by a Paul DeJong single, the only hit he allowed all afternoon. The final line from Kingham's MLB debut included nine strikeouts and no walks through 7.0 innings. Pittsburgh will keep Kingham on the roster for its upcoming series in Washington, but have not disclosed when his next start might be.

NOT THE IDEAL APRIL: With one day remaining in the month, Indy owns a -15 run differential, allowing 94 runs while scoring 79. The difference is their worst from the opening month of the season since 2011, when the Tribe posted a -40 run differential in April. In the first inning this season, Indy has been outscored by 11 runs, their biggest disparity in any inning. Just three teams in the IL hold worse run differential marks than the Indians: Gwinnett (-16), Charlotte (-19) and Columbus (-37).
