April 30, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
Dietrich Enns turned in a solid outing and Willians Astudillo provided the punch in the middle of the order as the Red Wings topped the Pawtucket Red Sox, 5-1, in the opener of three-game set from McCoy Stadium Monday night.
Rochester has now won back-to-back games for the first time since a four-game winning streak April 12-16.
Enns (1-3) went six innings allowing just four hits and one run. He escaped a jam in the third inning and then went on to retire the last 12 Sox hitters he faced to pick up his first win as a Red Wing.
He's now allowed just two runs over his last two starts (13.0 IP) after allowing eight runs combined over his first two starts of the season (7.0 IP).
The Wings (9-10) wasted no time getting to business off Paw Sox starter Chandler Shepherd. Astudillo and Brock Stassi collected RBI base hits in the first before Jermaine Curtis knocked home a run with a groundout that staked Rochester to an early 3-0 lead after an inning.
Astudillo would add an RBI single in the fourth inning and Jake Cave brought home the Wings fifth run with a sac fly in the eighth.
The Wings had scored a total of four runs in Enns' first three starts of the year.
DJ Baxendale (2 IP) and Mason Melotakis (1 IP) cleaned it up for Enns and the Red Wings.
The Red Wings send Twins prospect Stephen Gonsalves to the mound on Tuesday to make his Triple-A season debut after going 3-0, 1.77 ERA in 4 starts for Chattanooga (AA). He'll face former Red Wing RHP Justin Haley (0-3, 4.50).
WINGS THINGS: The Wings went 6-1 in Pawtucket last season, it was just the fourth winning season at Pawtucket since becoming a Twins affiliate in 2003...Jake Cave provided the Wings league-leading 14th sacrifice fly of the season in the 8th inning...Earlier Monday, the Twins announced that reliever John Curtiss had been promoted to the Major Leagues after striking out 17 over 9.1 IP with Rochester this season.
