Belleville Senators News Release

The set-up

The Belleville Senators will battle the Toronto Marlies for the third time this season in the latest Battle of Ontario Friday evening.

Belleville (7-8-0-0) got a big two points Wednesday with a shootout win over Utica that saw the Sens leap into fifth place in the North Division.

The Sens are 5-4 at CAA Arena this season while their 49 goals are the third most in the North. However, the team ranks last in the AHL in penalty killing that wasn't aided by giving up four power play goals Wednesday.

Toronto (5-6-0-2), the defending Calder Cup champions, lost to Laval Wednesday night and they currently sit last in the North Division with 12 points from 13 games.

Roster notes

In what feels like a rarity, there's no roster changes for Belleville from Wednesday until at least now.

Filip Gustavsson started in goal for Belleville on Wednesday, getting the win in the process, so it'll be either the Swede or Jake Paterson who starts tonight. With Belleville playing again Saturday, head coach Troy Mann has some decisions to make.

Sens captain Erik Burgdoerfer remains out after leaving Friday's game against Toronto while Logan Brown and Stuart Percy are nearing returns. Goaltenders Mike Condon and Marcus Hogberg also remain out for Belleville.

Previous history

Friday's contest will be the third Battle of the 401 already this season with all three contests taking place at CAA Arena. The two teams have split the series so far with Belleville claiming a 7-6 win on Nov. 9 before losing 8-2 the following day.

Who to watch

Sens forward Nick Paul continues to dominate at the AHL level as the Mississauga, Ont., native has put up eight points (two goals) over his last six contests. Paul has also spent time in Ottawa this year, tallying an assist in six games.

Chris Mueller leads the Marlies in scoring this season with 13 points in 11 games and is currently riding a five-game point streak where he's notched seven points.

Where to watch

Friday's game starts at 7:00pm and can be seen on AHLTV. Fans can also watch tonight's contest at Shoeless Joe's in Belleville.

The radio broadcast on CJBQ 800 begins at 6:50pm with Jack Miller on the call and David Foot on colour.
