Samsonov Recalled by Washington, Siegenthaler Re-Assigned to Bears

(Hershey, PA) - The Washington Capitals announced today that they have recalled goaltender Ilya Samsonov from the Hershey Bears. Additionally, the Capitals have re-assigned defender Jonas Siegenthaler to Hershey. The announcements were made by Washington senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan.

Samsonov, 21, has been recalled to Washington for the first time in his career. The goaltender was selected by Washington in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft. In his rookie season in North America, the netminder has appeared in eight games with Hershey, posting a 3-5-0 record with a 3.73 goals against average and a .875 save percentage. Samsonov earned his first AHL win on Oct. 27 versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Siegenthaler, 21, appeared in two games with the Capitals after being recalled from Hershey on Nov. 9. He made his NHL debut later that evening versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. The native of Zurich, Switzerland had two assists in 14 games this season with the Chocolate and White. Siegenthaler, a 2015 second round selection of Washington, has played in 102 career games with Hershey, scoring 15 points (six goals, nine assists) to go along with 85 penalty minutes.
