Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves have added an exciting new giveaway to the final homestand of the 2013 season. On Thursday, August 29, the team will give away Evan Gattis Bobbleheads to the first 2,000 fans in attendance for the 6:05 PM game against Durham. The giveaway is sponsored by Coolray Heating and Cooling.
Gattis will be immortalized in bobblehead form for the first time in his career. The Atlanta Braves' catcher/outfielder has been wildly popular in his Major League debut season for both his on-field heroics and off-field story. Nicknamed "El Oso Blanco," Gattis won the National League Rookie of the Month awards in both April and May, hitting a combined .281 (39-for-139) with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs in his first 43 games. He's the first player to win back-to-back NL Rookie of the Month awards since Braves' teammate and former G-Brave Jason Heyward won in April and May of 2010.
His incredible 2013 season has also included a brief stint with Gwinnett. Gattis played in two games for the G-Braves, July 12-13 at Durham, as he recovered from a strained right oblique muscle. Though he's now worn the Gwinnett uniform, his bobblehead will depict him in the Atlanta Braves' jersey and cap.
Gattis will be the sixth and final bobblehead given away by the Gwinnett Braves this season. Previous bobbleheads include Brandon Beachy (April 6), Freddie Freeman (May 18), Jason Heyward (June 22) and Kris Medlen (July 6), while the Craig Kimbrel bobblehead giveaway, sponsored by Gwinnett Medical Center, is scheduled for August 10.
Tickets for the August 29 game against Durham are on sale now at the Coolray Field Box Office. Purchase in person, via phone at (678) 277-0340 or online at gwinnettbraves.com.
