Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons face the Columbus Clippers in the third game of a four-game series at Huntington Park (7:05 p.m.). Each club has picked up a win in the set with Buffalo winning 1-0 on Tuesday. Following tomorrow's game, the Herd will return home for a seven-game homestand against Pawtucket and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Race is On
The Bisons, Red Wings and Red Sox all lost on Wednesday. Rochester maintained their one-game lead over Pawtucket in the IL North while the PawSox remain 2.5 games ahead of Buffalo in the IL's Wild Card standings. Norfolk trials the Herd by only 0.5 in the Wild Card race.
vs. the Clippers
The Bisons are 4-2 against Columbus this year and can clinch a season-series victory with just one more win. The Herd took the opening series 3-1 when they met at Coca-Cola Field, July 22-25. A series win for Buffalo would be their fourth against Columbus over the last five years.
On the Mound
LHP RICKY ROMERO will make his 16th start tonight for the Herd this season. On Saturday in Toledo, the southpaw allowed three earned runs in 4.1 innings in a defeat to the Mud Hens. In his last 10 starts, Romero has posted 3.98 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work.
Sergio Santos
The Blue Jays have activated RHP SERGIO SANTOS off of his MLB injury rehab assignment with the Bisons. In six appearances for the Herd, Santos posted a 7.50 ERA without a decision. The righty struck out five and walked two batters in 6.0 innings of work.
Return of the Mack
INF MIKE McCOY stole his team-leading 21st base last night. The veteran has only been caught four times for a 84% success rate. McCoy is also riding a four-game hit streak over which he has averaged .385 (5-13) with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored.
Bisons Bits
INF MAURO GOMEZ leads the IL with 28 home runs, and is T3rd in all of minor league baseball...LHP TOMMY HOTTOVY has not allowed an earned run in his 17 appearances with the Herd. Left-handed hitters are only batting .040 against Hottovy with a .143 on base percentage... Bisons relievers have posted a 0.99 ERA in 24.1 innings of work since July 23. The group has 25 strikeouts in that stretch.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (50-57) took the series finale from the Athletics yesterday afternoon, 5-2. OF COLBY RASMUS went 3-5 with a double and two RBI. The Blue Jays travel to Anaheim to take on the L.A. Angels tonight (10:05 p.m. EST). RHP JOSH JOHNSON takes the mound for the Jays.
