LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Louisville (55-58) and Syracuse (50-60) split Wednesday night's doubleheader, which was played due to Tuesday's rain out. The Chiefs took game one 3-1, while the Bats bounced back for a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Louisville was limited to three hits in the 3-1 loss to Syracuse in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader. The lone run came off of a solo homerun from Billy Hamilton in the sixth inning.

Jonathan Broxton made the start for the Bats, in a rehab assignment from Cincinnati. Broxton, who went on the disabled list on June 15 with a right elbow flexor mass strain, was 2-2 with a 4.33 ERA for the Reds.

Broxton got himself into trouble in the first inning, loading the bases after allowing three consecutive singles to start the game. However after an infield fly, Broxton struck out Corey Brown and Zach Walters to maneuver his way out of the early jam.

Kevin Whelan took over in the second inning, for the Bats, but Syracuse continued their hot hitting, scoring two runs on four hits. Will Rhymes, Jhonatan Solano, Eury Perez and Danny Espinosa all singled in the inning for the Chiefs. Whelan only threw 11 pitches in the second, but faced seven batters before getting out of the inning.

Daniel Corcino, who was originally slated to start tonight's game, entered in the third inning. Brown led off the inning with a no-doubter to right field, his 17th home run this season. The solo blast was the only run of the inning, as Syracuse took a 3-0 lead after the third.

Louisville threatened in the third, but to no avail. After the first eight batters were retired in order, Corcino singled with two outs to turnover the lineup. Billy Hamilton followed with a single, and Emmanuel Burriss reached base via error to load the bases for Ryan Ludwick. After working the count full, Ludwick grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.

Hamilton led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to right to get the Bats on the board. The homer was Hamilton's sixth this season, fifth over the wall, and good for his 37th RBI. Louisville wasn't able to add on, as Burriss, Ludwick and Mike Hessman went down in order.

Louisville was unable to rally in the seventh, as the Chiefs' Yunesky Maya (6-7, 4.06 ERA) finished off his first career complete game win. Maya's final line was 7 IP 3 H, 1 R, 6 K's. Corcino threw the game's final five innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out four. Whelan (3-2, 4.82 ERA) was credited with the loss, after allowing two runs in his one inning of work.

GAME TWO

Louisville bounced back in game two with a 3-0 victory over the Chiefs. The win snapped Syracuse's five-game winning streak, while also keeping the Bats over .500 in doubleheaders this season.

Yohan Pino (3-5, 2.94 ERA), who was originally scheduled to start last night's game, took the hill for the Bats in the nightcap. Pino was pitted against Syracuse's Ryan Tatusko (4-4, 3.55 ERA).

Hamilton hit a two-out single in the third inning, his third hit of the night. Hamilton went on to steal second base on the next pitch, which is good for his International League leading 64th stolen base. Hamilton was left stranded as Josh Fellhauer struck out to end the inning.

Danny Espinosa doubled to left with two outs in the fourth, recording the first hit off of Pino in game two. The double was Espinosa's seventh of the season, but Pino was able to leave him standing at second base.

Walters doubled down the right field line in the Chiefs fifth for his 29th double and IL leading 57th extra-base hit. However the rally was short-lived, as Hamilton threw out Walters at third while attempting to tag up on Josh Johnson's fly out.

Louisville would get on the board in the home half of the fifth, as Kristopher Negron led off with his fourth home run of the season. Jason Donald followed with a double to deep right, his 13th. After a one-out walk to Pino, Hamilton grounded out to first to advance both runners. Denis Phipps pinch-hit for Fellhauer, but grounded out to end the inning.

Xavier Cedeno came in to relieve Tatusko to get Phipps to ground out. Tatusko final line was 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, and 6 K's.

Will Rhymes hit a pinch-hit single in the sixth as the Chiefs looked to even the score. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, Pino walked Chris Rahl to end his night. Jose Diaz came in to strikeout Espinosa to preserve the lead.

Pino's final line was 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB and 3 K's. In his last start, Pino threw a complete-game shutout against this Syracuse team on July 25. In his two appearances against the Chiefs, Pino has gone 14.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB and 10 K's.

Louisville would add on to the lead in the sixth, scoring two runs to take a 3-0 lead. Neftali Soto drew a leadoff walk, and was driven in by Felix Perez's double. The double was the 21st of the season for Perez, while he also recorded his team-leading 58th RBI. Perez later scored on a groundout by Burriss.

Diaz threw a scoreless seventh to record his team-high eighth save. Diaz went 1.1 IP 1 H, 0 R and 2 K's.

Game three of the four-game series between the Chiefs and the Bats will take place Thursday at 7:05 p.m. It will be a match-up of southpaws, as Louisville's Ryan Dennick (0-0, 3.60 ERA) will face Syracuse's Danny Rosenbaum (5-7, 4.17 ERA).
