Furious Rally Falls Short

CRESTWOOD, ILLINOIS - A late rally by the London Rippers (20-31) wasn't enough, as the Windy City ThunderBolts (29-20) held on for a 5-4 win.

London was down 5-0 in the 8th when they put up two runs on a bases loaded fielder's choice by Matt Wright and a wild pitch that scored Brad Agustin.

In the 9th, the Rippers made it 5-4 on RBI singles by Jim Vahalik and Agustin, but couldn't get the tying run home.

For most of the night, ThunderBolts starter, Dustin Williams (8-2) kept London at bay, throwing 8 innings and giving up two runs on four hits, four walks and seven strike outs.

The scoring started early, Chad Cregar drilled a two-run homer, his 15th homer of the season and 5th against London, as Windy City busted out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st .

Bob Glover scored the ThunderBolts' third run, scoring from third on a wild pitch.

Windy City increased their lead to 4-0 on a C.J. Gillman single that scored Mike Torres in the 3rd .

It became 5-0 in the 6th, when Glover singled into right and Gillman scored on an error by Shane Bagley.

Rippers' starter, Yohan Gonzalez (3-4) finished three innings, giving up four runs on four hits. He did not walk anyone and struck out five.

Eric Katzman put in three innings of work, allowing one run on four hits and a strikeout.

The Rippers head back to Labatt Park for the first time in the second half as they host the Southern Illinois Miners, starting tomorrow at 6:30pm.

Rippers' All-Star, Jamie Richmond (5-2 2.73) will match up against Brian Fowler (3-4 3.24).
