Normal CornBelters News Release

SCHAUMBURG - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, failed to hold an early three-run lead and lost at Schaumburg 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Boomers Stadium.

The CornBelters started the scoring with a big third inning. Normal loaded the bases with a walk to Bobby Rinard, a K.C. Judge double and a walk to Ernie Banks Jr. Rinard scored on a wild pitch, and RBI singles by Sam Judah and Bubby Williams gave the Belters a 3-0 lead.

The Boomers cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth when Frank Pfister reached Normal starter Daniel Britt for Schaumburg's first hit, followed by two bloop hits inside each foul line by Chad Mozingo and Drew Heithoff put the Boomers on the board.

Schaumburg evened the game at 3-3 in the sixth when Sean Mahley led off with a double and scored on a scorching double inside the third base line by Steve McQuail. The Boomers took their first lead at 4-3 later in the sixth with Chad Mozingo's second double of the game.

The Boomers added a run in the seventh when Ty Nelson led off with a double and scored on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt to increase the host's lead to 5-3.

Schaumburg put two more insurance runs on the board in the eighth on three hits and an error to build the Boomers lead to 7-3.

The CornBelters rallied in the ninth, loading the bases and scoring once on a single by K.C. Judge, but left the bags filled to end the game.

Cameron Roth (6-3) worked six innings for the win, while Daniel Britt (3-5) also turned in six innings but took the loss.

The CornBelters continue the road trip to Cook County on Monday in Crestwood against the Windy City ThunderBolts. At 6:05 p.m., the Belters will complete a suspended game from May 20, leading the Bolts 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, followed by the regularly scheduled game at about 7:30. Pre-game on WJBC.com begins at 5:50. The Belters will conclude the road trip at Windy City with contests at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday and 10:35 a.m. Wednesday before returning to the Corn Crib for a six-game homestand beginning Thursday.
