
Miners Sign Double-A Outfielder

Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners have announced the signing of outfielder Cory Harrilchak who had recently been playing within the Atlanta Braves Organization at the Double-A level. Harrilchak, 24 and product of Cary, North Carolina brings affiliated experience to the Southern Illinois Miners. He was drafted by Atlanta in the 14th round of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft.
Harrilchak played with the Mississippi Braves of the Southern League this season. In 53 games played with Braves this year, he had 25 hits and collected 18 RBI. He stole nine bases and was only caught once. Also, he scored 11 runs and hit 10 doubles. Harrilchak also played two games in Triple - A with the Gwinnett Braves this season. He scored one run and walked once.
Last season, Harrilchak played 122 games with the Mississippi Braves. He hit .266 with 7 HR and 56 RBI. Harrilchak stole 10 bases and was caught stealing seven times. He walked 42 times and had an OBP of .338. He recorded 26 doubles and five triples.
In 2010, Harrilchak played with Myrtle Beach Pelicans (A+) of the Carolina League and the Rome Braves (A) of the South Atlantic League. In 58 games with the Pelicans, Harrilchak hit .269 and recorded 63 hits with 2 HR and 25 RBI. Harrilchak had 16 doubles and five triples in Myrtle Beach. He scored 29 runs and had an OBP of .329. With Rome, Harrilchak hit .306 in 60 games with 1 HR, 10 doubles, 3 triples and 22 RBI. He had 67 hits and scored 31 runs. He stole 18 bases and was caught stealing 11 times.
In 2009 with the Danville Braves (Rk) of the Applalachian League where Harrilchak began his career, he had a batting average of .324 and brought in 41 runs with 2 HR. In 60 games he recorded 72 hits, stole 19 bases and was caught stealing twice. He hit 10 doubles, five triples and had an OBP of .401.
Harrilchak played college baseball at Elon University where he had a career average of .369 in 155 games played (two years). He recorded 170 hits and scored 150 runs. He amassed 27 HR and 107 RBI over his four years and stole 34 bases. He was caught stealing only 10 teams in his collegiate career.
