Fuel Get Seidel, Clare and Futures from Jackals for Owen

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks and American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, announced today that the team has acquired forward Mike Seidel and defenseman Kevin Clare plus future considerations in exchange for goaltender Shane Owen.

The 27-year-old Seidel scored 23 goals and 42 points for Elmira last season in just 58 games to lead the team in both categories. His five game-winning goals was also tops on the Jackals in 2014-15. The Chicago, IL native has totaled 30 points this season (13-17-30) and is on pace for a career high in assists. Seidel was also part of the NCAA Championship-winning University of Minnesota-Duluth squad in 2011.

Clare, 23, is in his second full season of professional hockey, turning pro after a four-year career at the University of Michigan. The 6-1, 201 lb. rearguard is a well-rounded player who has 11 assists and 14 points in 54 games to go with a plus-3 rating. Clare also was a part of the USNTDP for two seasons a a member of both the Under-17 and Under-18 squads in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Owen heads to the Jackals after appearing in 34 games for the Fuel with a 13-19-0-0, 2.55 GAA and .916 save percentage and one shutout.

"Shane Owen has been a tremendous player and teammate while a member of the Indy Fuel," said head coach Scott Hillman. "I want to personally thank him for his dedication and outstanding play during his time with our franchise. We believe this is a move that strengthens our franchise at both the forward and defensive positions to give us the best chance to win now and also to continue to strengthen our franchise in the future."

The next Fuel home game will be Friday, March 4th against the Utah Grizzlies at 7:35 pm on Free App Friday courtesy of South of Chicago Pizza and Beef.
