FORT WAYNE, IN - In the fourth of 11 head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel were defeated in a shootout by the Fort Wayne Komets by a final score of 2-1 on Thursday at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. With the shootout loss, the Fuel improved to 3-8-2-2 overall this season and with ten points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
After a scoreless first period, The Komets broke the ice at 5:45 of the middle frame when Garrett Muers potted an eve-strength rebound score, his first of the season, to claim Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes of play. Leading Fuel scorer Robert Czarnik equalized for Indy at 13:12 of the third on a one-time feed from Nick Bruneteau and Jamie Wise, Czarnik's ninth goal of the season, to force overtime.
After a scoreless extra session, Czarnik scored in the shootout's third round for the Fuel while Fort Wayne received shootout tallies from Eric Faille and Shawn Szydlowski to claim a 2-1 victory. In his return to the Indy crease, goaltender Mac Carruth made 31 saves in the loss while Pat Nagle stopped 28 Fuel shots to earn the win.
