INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, acquired 6'1", 195 lb., left-handed shooting defenseman Dan Ford, a native of Skaneateles, New York, via trade from the Reading Royals in exchange for future considerations, the Fuel announced Thursday. Ford, 24, appeared in one game for the Royals this season and began his professional career in the 2013-14 campaign, during which he logged five ECHL appearances for the South Carolina Stingrays.
"We are giving up too many goals," said Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Thursday. "Dan is the type of defenseman that takes pride in his defensive game...We are working extremely hard as a team to correct some problems in our own zone and we believe adding a player like Dan at this time will help us do that."
In the collegiate ranks, Ford tallied five goals, 33 career points and 61 penalty minutes in 131 appearances for the Harvard Crimson in four NCAA seasons from 2010 to 2014 and served as Harvard's captain during the 2013-14 season. At the junior level, Ford appeared in 112 games for the USHL's Sioux City Musketeers in two seasons from 2008 to 2010, collecting six goals, 28 points and 75 penalty minutes over that span. In two seasons in the EJHL from 2006 to 2008, Ford posted nine goals, 47 points and 46 penalty minutes in 81 games played for the Syracuse Stars. The Fuel also announced Thursday that forward Kyle Gibbons has been released.
