Beast Capture First Road Win 4-3

November 27, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release

RAPID CITY, SD - After dropping both games on their first lengthy road trip of the season, the Brampton Beast came out with a purpose Wednesday night and notched their first ever ECHL road victory. It seemed as if a few days of rest and team bonding was precisely what Brampton needed as they came out flying, opening the scoring just 6:30 into the contest. Jason Dale hammered home the marker on a 2-on-1 rush with Dustin Ekelman, after Beast captain Cal Wild made a terrific lead pass to Dale through the neutral zone. Dale wasted no time and drifted the puck top corner to put Brampton ahead 1-0.

The Beast continued to put the pressure on the Rapid City team and with under eight minutes after Dale his team in the lead, Chad Painchaud tapped home back door pass from Mike MacIsaac to extend Brampton's lead to 2-0. The goal was a Powerplay marker, Painchaud's third of the season and his team leading 12th point. The score would remain 2-0 through 20 minutes of play.

Rapid City would come on in the middle frame, notching two goals of their own, both compliments of their captain, Jesse Schultz. Schultz's first tally came at the 5:30 mark into the second as he gathered a back door pass from his winger, Robin Soudek, who also had a multi-point evening (1G, 1A). However, Mathew Maione would briefly restore the Beast's two goal lead at the 12:04 mark of the second, when he walked in from a sharp angle and sniped his third goal of the season off of the far side post. The goal was scored during four-on-four play. But just moments later, Schultz would notch his second and first multi-goal game of the season to once again cut the Beast lead in half.

The final period favoured Rapid City, with the team icing their best statistical period of the season.

The Rush battled back to tie the game when Robin Soudek scored his first of the game. Things remained dead-locked at three until the final 1:30 when Tyson Fawcett redirected a Brayden Rose point shot into the back of the net, restoring the Beast lead. Despite some sustained zone time with the extra attacker out in the final minute, the Rush were unable to score the equalizer, dropping the team to a six game losing streak, their longest in franchise history. The Beast collected their first win on the road as members of the ECHL.

T he Beast will play the Rapid City Rush in their second game of the series on Friday, November 28th at 9:05PM EST. Fans can watch the game online at ECHL.tv or listen at 4cornersradio.ca.
