Fronts Have 6 Different Goal Scorers in 6-1 Win over Petes

The second half of the season began on Friday night in Kingston for the Frontenacs and the Peterborough Petes were the opponent. Kingston received some bad news over the holiday break that Mitchell Byrne and Ryan Dugas both suffered long term injuries. That forced Darren Keily to make a pair of trades before the game on Friday. He acquired Marshall Frappier, a goaltender, from the Sudbury Wolves as well as Adrien Beraldo, a defenceman from the Peterborough Petes. Frappier made it to Kingston in time to join the lineup but Beraldo wasn't dressed to face his former team.

The game had a quick pace to start but it wasn't resulting in a lot of shots. There wasn't a whistle in the opening five minutes, but each team recorded just two shots. Adam Timleck opened the scoring for the Petes when he tipped a puck by Bonello at 6:04. It looked like that score would hold through the end of the period, but Tyler Burnie changed that in the final minute. He was sent in on a breakaway by Ryan Cranford while the Fronts were shorthanded, and Burnie buried it to tie the game 1-1. The Petes tried to grab the lead back before the end of the period, but Brendan Bonello and the Fronts killed off the rest of the penalty to send the game to intermission tied 1-1.

The Frontenacs took the game over in the second period. Anthony Aguanno gave his team the lead when he tucked in a rebound after a Tyler Burnie shot. Kingston then scored three quick goals near the end of the period to take control. Ryan Cranford beat Hunter Jones between the legs to make it 3-1. Dawson Baker extended the lead less than two minutes later with his fourth of the season. Brett Neumman scored just three minutes later after taking a sweet pass from Ryan Cranford. The Frontenacs dominated the period by scoring 4 goals. They were out shooting the Petes 25-16 after forty minutes.

They continued to play well in the final frame. Ian Derungs scored the only goal of the period on a power play to make the score 6-1. The most impressive part of the period was Kingston's ability to smother any chance the Petes had at gaining momentum. Peterborough would only get five shots on net in the final twenty minutes.

It was one of the most complete games of the season for the Frontenacs. They had six different goal scorers and surrendered just 21 shots against. It was also the first time this season Kingston won a game after allowing the first goal.
